Paul Myerberg's C-USA Review
Myerberg's conference review is out, and there is at least one surprise.

That's interesting. Showing a lot of love for us and IMHO not giving MTSU enough credit

RE: Paul Myerberg's C-USA Review
Only three teams ranked below 100, and several top 50 projections. I'd say if the guy is right, this will be a much better year overall for CUSA. I'd be thrilled with a 4th place CUSA east finish and a 6-6 record.

Surprised to not see Mathers listed among top newcomers.

If memory serves, Myerberg has never given MT any kudos. Not surprised that he isn't now. Until the Raiders win a CUSA title in FB; that is not going to change. I am surprised he has La Tech taking down Southern Miss in the West and Western 2nd in the East. Opinions are like Noses. Everybody has one.

Wilder's rant paying off 02-13-banana

Yeah, I have to admit that I kind of liked that, but to tell the truth, the surprise I was referring to was his picking LA Tech to win the West.

Yeah, coach seems to be the major concern that he sees with USM.

He's high on the Dawgs... #40 in the nation. As a Tech homer, I'm not nearly that optimistic. When we finish around #40 we are loaded with a bunch of returning starters. Our team is full of question marks this year, so I don't know what he's basing that on. Hope he's right though. 04-cheers

I think I am more optimistic about this team than many others. If Higgins doesn't turn the ball over, which is a HUGE IF, we are going to be dangerous on offense. The line and WRs are as good as we have had in a long time. Our ST will be much improved, it cost us a couple games last year. Defensively I am extremely optimistic. We have more length and speed then anytime I can remember. With the additions of Harris and Santos along with d line depth and talent we should be above avg to great vs the run. Obviously have to stay healthy but that is the case for every team

RE: Paul Myerberg's C-USA Review
Myerberg tends to give a lot more respect to G5 schools in general. He's not afraid to say the 3rd or 4th CUSA team is actually better than the 10th place Big Ten team. He doesn't do his one a day rankings anymore, but I will reconstruct his total rankings as he releases his conference picks.

That review (wouldn't that be a preview?) read like he researched about a third of the teams and ignored the rest. The talent in this league is not that clustered - just look at the preseason teams. Lazy.

So, according to this cat, MT is only the sixth best team in the league going into the season. Okie Dokie.

Next.

Agree, but he is basically saying Higgins will be as good as Driskel and the 4 new corners will have no problem in this pass-happy league. No way he can know that. I'm not ready to say our ST will be much improved either, at this point.

WOW! A preseason Bednarik and Outland trophies watch list member didn't even make his conference Defensive team? We must be deeper as a conference on D than I realized.

^I think that's a true statement. Many ODU fans are saying for the first time ever our Defense might be our strongest attribute and our dline is looking really good. And we're projecting 4th or 6th in the east I think we may be in for another up year as a conference.

RE: Paul Myerberg's C-USA Review
Actually, of all the C-USA preseason previews I've seen, this is probably the closest to my view of how the conference will shake out. I think Southern Miss will be a contender by struggle more than most seem to assume. They have three conference games that aren't guaranteed wins in my book. I think I also share his general view on MTSU. Everyone's wanting to crown them, but they still have alot of question marks, and really don't have a favorable schedule.

The only things that might be "unfavorable" about our schedule is going to Huntington and I guess catching La Tech rather than someone at the bottom of the division, even then we get Tech at home, Western as well.

RE: Paul Myerberg's C-USA Review
I don't know... you play at two SEC teams (yes, one is potentially winnable), but in between you travel to the defending MAC Champions and home games against probably two of the strongest teams in the conference. If you don't beat Vandy, its not a huge stretch to see you guys sitting at 2-4 halfway through that schedule, two games back in the league with a trip at Marshall still to go. You're going to have to defeat an SEC school and/or a pair from the group of G5 co-"favorites" in La Tech, WKU, and Bowling Green to not have a "disappointing" record heading into the second half of the season, and you're going to have to beat LaTech in your league opener else you're basically in a win-or-you're-toast mode for the rest of your season.
