Top 144 teams-Which CAA teams make the cut?
I was just looking at the top 144 teams that they do each year and they are down to about 103 or so by now. They come out with a new team each day. The Tribe came in at #105 with a preseason CAA prediction of 4th. That means that there are 3 other teams left to be picked. The question is: What are those teams? I'm guessing that they are going to pick Hofstra, C of C, and then UNCW (obviously the #1 pick). It could be JMU instead of one of the other 2. The second question will be: What would you expect this poll to have UNCW picked at overall? Is that number in the top 30, top 40, top 50, top 60, top 70, top 80, top 90 or top 100? Have fun with your guesses!06-basketball06-basketball06-basketball

Hofstra was #125 so JMU should be the other one.

Oh okay, I forgot that they were picked already. Thanks. JMU should be up soon or C of C at some point.

Just a guess here, 60-70 range.

I think UNCW will be mid fifties to mid sixties. Other 2 mid seventies to nineties. I believe CofC will finish in top five but do not see them being preseason top five.

UNCW finished with an RPI of 52 last year. I agree with Cougar, but think we may get into the high 40's. Two years of underestimating UNCW and Keatts are over. I predict 45-55.

101 came in today and not a CAA team. Will be 3 CAA teams top 100. Last year only 1. CAA getting more preseason respect this year.

Drexel will come in, probably around 85th...03-lmfao

Only joking, I agree JMU will probably be in the mid 80's, CofC mid 70's to low 80's and UNCW with be mid 60's, maybe low 60's. I don't think they will crack the top 50.

CofC already picked at #100. They're picked #3 in the league. About what I predicted. Other than LSU, we quietly got our 17 wins last year with no postseason after the L to you guys. Still a bit under the radar since Canyon transferred (even though we didn't have him after Jan. 2 last season).

Charleston can win on their defense alone, nevermind the fact that their top scorers are all a year older and bound to take big strides. I think they finish 2nd next season.

Nope. I have them 3rd behind WM.

Top 3 could be:

1. Seahawks
2. Tribe
3. Cougars

WM, like UNCW, will have too many offensive weapons for Charleston.

1. UNCW
2. CoC
3. W&M

CoC has a lot of weapons on offense now, and a stifling defense. If it weren't for the fact we have such a strong return of top players, i'd have the Cougars winning the conference, and they may win anyhow.

You're such a Tribe homer.

RE: Top 144 teams-Which CAA teams make the cut?
Our top 2 shooters both had medical redshifts last year. Our top 8 players that finishsd the season are all back. Two of our starters after early Jan will be coming off the bench. Barring an injury bug again we will have as much depth as anyone in the CAA this year. Last years team was very young and lost some games simply because they had dead legs at the end of games. How far that takes us this season remains to be seen but I doubt you will see a team in the conference more improved than than the Cougars this season.

Not really, I just see their talent first hand and Shaver has that program continuously moving in the right direction. Keatts and our Seahawks will continue to get the best of them though.

UNCW is 1-3 against the Tribe under Keatts, with the only W being an overtime win....:-) .

RE: Top 144 teams-Which CAA teams make the cut?
The Tribe are tough to beat, but UNCW is the team to beat this year without a doubt. The Hawks have almost everybody back and are confident and ready to win. Yes, the Tribe will be a hard game at both places and C of C will also be hard games. JMU has had a hard time with UNCW for some reason. The Huskies can't be overlooked either because they are so well coached and have good talent. The Pride are always talented and tough to beat. There are about 5 teams that are pretty good to excellent. This should be the Hawks year but it's tough. If you look back on it, UNCW was fortunate to get past an undermanned C of C team last year! If it weren't for a VERY heady play by Ingram to rotate down and deflect that ball off the C of C player, the Hawks could have gone home and not advanced to the NCAA's. Yes, it's a very tough league and the more I think about it....C of C is the most ready team to give the Hawks a go of it. They play great defense and have talented guards so they have a real shot. Can they live up to the moment in the CAA final this year? That's the big question, but they definitely will be a force and are relatively young. Winning the championship requires step up guys like Flemmings and Ingram, guys that can deliver under pressure, and that's the one thing that UNCW does have over the rest of the teams. You still have to do it though.

Preseason...yes, it's UNCW without any doubt. When you get down to playing the games, it's going to be a dogfight between the Cougars and the Hawks barring injuries. That's my top 2 as I've seen it play out last year. It may play out differently but if it does, that means that the CAA is very good because I know that UNCW will be good barring injuries.

The big difference is that the conference tournament is in North Charleston. That will help UNCW and CofC because they will likely have more fans than anyone else. UNCW had a lot of fans last year, but nothing like what it will likely be here in March.

Agree. If we have a decent year, I expect a huge UNCW contingent in Charleston.
