Are they admitting WVU was a mistake? I also wonder if adding UC or UConn might be frowned upon because they are geographic outliers that if push came to shove another conference could poach fairly easily. Imagine adding UC or UConn, those programs blossoming over the next decade and then losing your investment to the B1G or ACC should those conferences decide they want either. They'll never have to worry about losing WVU but that's because no one wants to be associated with their fan base.

If WVU put half as much effort into cleaning up fan behavior and getting serious about academics as they do in making couch candles they'd be ACC members in a generation.

West Virginia would have replaced Maryland quite nicely, they are a logical geographic fit.

Nothing like traveling to a college football game for some light hearted entertainment with the fam only to be berated and threatened on your way into and out of the stadium. Loads of fun for the kids.

The Big 12 wouldn't have to worry about losing UConn to the ACC.
West Virginia would be a perfect geographic fit for the ACC, but other issues will keep them out of the league.

If they stay out west then my prediction is Colorado State, BYU ( FB only ) Boise ( FB only ) and Houston with New Mexico as a Longshot if the Texas schools say no to another state addition.

Having BYU & Boise as football only would resolve a lot of issues that full membership would bring. Cincinnati would be next, for WV, & then either Houston or Colorado State.

I'd rank them
1). BYU,
2 and 3). Houston/Cincinnati,
4ab&c). UCF/Colorado St/Memphis

http://americanrx.blogspot.com/2016/08/r...dates.html

NOTE: That ranking is strictly for the Big XII; it would be different for the ACC.

Ken D posted this in another thread but I think it shows why Boise & BYU would be great football only adds for the B12. They are the top two in power ratings among the G5 & both are top 5 in attendance. UCF would be a good full member, by this metric.

"Top 15, with power rating (G5 attendance rank in parentheses):

.1 Boise.............80 (5)
.2 BYU...............77 (1)
.3 UCF...............73 (4)
.4 Houston.........73 (14)
.5 NIU...............72 (48)
.6 Cincy.............72 (11)
.7 Utah St..........71 (34)
.8 La Tech..........71 (30)
.9 Navy..............71 (6)
10 SDSU............70 (8)
11 Toledo...........70 (31)
12 Ga Southern..68 (39)
13 Temple..........68 (20)
14 Tulsa.............68 (33)
15 Marshall........67 (19)"

RE: If the B12 stays out west with its expansion...
Ultimately, expansion is NOT about wins... it's about dollars. So the REAL question is, which additions - if any - will make the conference more money in the long term.

According to today's reports the answer is none additions.

I was distraught when Rutgers was left behind in the AAC. The only solace I took was that I would have to go to a game with WVU fans again.

Rutgers is meaningless. Has absolutely no impact in college football or basketball past, present, or future...
