This is my thinking as well, though most of his yards seem to come after the catch, and those yards the offensive coordinator doesn't have much to do with.

Yeah, it should provide him more space when he gets the ball, but he may end up with hal as many targets ss last year.

Two factors. One is the fact that Franklin's system is designed to spread the ball around and second opposing DC's know him now. He will get doubled a lot taking away his opportunities but it means a lot of times other receivers will be wide open. This is what makes have such a good QB so important. The question is who will have the biggest year on the other side because of all the focus on James?
I don't think James gets to 100 this year...even if he stays healthy.

If we play 14 games and James stays healthy he may still top out around 70.
While Franklin likes to mix it up in the WR category, he plays favorites too. Jerrel Jernigan comes to mind when TF was at Troy. If the WR produces he will move him around forcing the diversion while then flipping the other hot hand around, giving the top guy the open field. It's a shell game with TF and James will still be a top target. He makes plays even when they key in on him. If he draws a double team then look out for Upton or Pettis to be open. It's gonna be fun this year.

Jernigan was only with Franklin one season - his freshman year. He caught 30 balls. Jernigan did most of his damage after Franklin left but never produced a season remotely close to Richie James' freshman campaign last year.
And Jernigan is having a pretty good NFL career.
I think a better example would be Patton at La Tech.

My bad, you're right about that.
James is way more talented than Jernigan IMO and TF knows that. TF will move him around everywhere. Reggie Henderson, the 3 star former Miami commit will get opportunities in camp to play this year. With those 2 and Pettis, Upton, Bruce, Fraiser, etc. We should have more than enough talent to improve from last year.

The conference definitely has some outstanding receivers this year. Four were named to the coaches preseason all conference team, including James, Taylor, Taylor and Pascal. Don't overlook Pascal. I think he will have a super season this year.
