[quote]Houston Sweeps 2005 C-USA Outdoor Track & Field Championship Titles
Houston swept the men’s and women’s 2005 Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championship titles on Saturday at their home facility of the Carl Lewis/Tom Tellez Track & Field Complex. The pair of crowns gave the school its fifth C-USA women’s outdoor title and just as many men’s outdoor honors. The Cougar men won the meet with a total of 201 points, which was 96 points more than the second-place finishers, the TCU Horned Frogs. The UH women recorded 137 points en route to collecting champion status, while Southern Miss finished runner-up with 116.50 points.
With the victory the Cougar squad became the first C-USA men's track and field team to win the Conference USA cross country, indoor track and field and outdoor track and field championships during the same season. Houston won its first conference cross country championship in 45 years last fall and won its third consecutive C-USA Indoor Track and Field Championship last February. Marquette won the women's triple crown in 1996.
TCU men advanced five spots from the day two’s standings with a second-place meet finish of 105 points on Saturday. Cincinnati rounded out the top three schools for the men’s side as the Bearcats earned a total of 90 points. Southern Miss’ women held steady at second place after day two, while Charlotte, which was tied for 11th place going into the final day of competition, moved into third place with a point tally of 75. Golden Eagles’ head coach Wayne Williams was named Conference USA Women’s Coach of the Year following the meet.
