Most Frightening/Disturbing movie you've ever seen?
Okay...I was mulling this over, and I thought this might be interesting:

What is the most frightening/disturbing film you've ever seen?

I have 6 in no particular order:

Henry, Portrait of a Serial Killer (based on a true story)
The Exorcist (also based on a true story)
Night & Fog (documentary footage from the Nazi concentration camps)
Gummo (the closest thing to a nightmare on film I've EVER seen--truly disturbing)
Jaws (never felt comfortable in the ocean after that film...also based on a true story)
Lord of the Flies (the original...although the book was even more frightening)

I'm curious to know what you think...

I've seen a lot of horror films. The scariest movie I have ever seen is Event Horizon. It stars Sam Neal (from Jurassic Park). I couldn't sleep right for a while after I watched this movie. I have attached the trailer from this movie

I'll be honest there's only one scary movie that I still think about and it's White Noise. Every time the radio or TV has static on it, I think of that movie.

I can't say I've ever been scared by a movie but there are some pretty grotesque films out there. There is a Japanese film but I can't remember the name.

Since Lush brought up Oldboy, let me point out that there are some really good Korean films out there. The Chaser and Memories of Murder immediately comes to mind.

Probably not for everyone, but the most disturbing movie I think I have seen is Schindlers List, particularly watch the little girl in the red coat. Also, very disturbing was the scene in the series "Band of Soldiers" when they come upon the concentration camp.

Schindler's List was VERY disturbing...check out "Night and Fog" if you can find it out there--this contains actual concentration camp footage archived by the Nazis.

My dad once told me a story about a soldier who had brought home a Nazi keepsake from WWII...a wallet made from human skin. He was just a boy at the time, but it made a lasting impression.

The trailer for Gummo is below:

I think the acid test for a frightening/disturbing film is if it gives you nightmares and changes your perceptions in a lasting way. Each of the films I've listed has achieved that purpose.

GingerDead Man...

But seriously, I am right there with Clifton. It may have been the age that i saw that (I was 11 at the time), but that really got to me. I really like Sci-Fi, and that was the first I had seen of a horror flip on the genre.

"The Other" 1972 movie, creeped me out as a little kid and when I watched as an adult it creeped me out again.

Great, great psychological thriller...saw it at the Jolly Roger drive-in many years ago with my family.
