Iowa State's AD sounds off on expansion
Iowa state has off the record podcast and this week they talked to the Athletic director Jaime Pollard.

He talks about expansion for about 15 mins of it so I figured I could sum up for you guys what the main parts of it if you didn't want to listen.

http://cyclonefanatic.com/podcasts/off-t...e-pollard/

- Jaime had been in poland these past few days so he hasn't been able to talk that much about expansion with other presidents besides the Iowa State one. (I think this shows that they still are looking around because I doubt they would make a decision if an AD was out of the country)

- the big 12 wasn't going to expand going into the media day meetings.

- the decision to expand was started by the presidents of the schools and not the ADs.

- Jaime believes they still are not going to expand.

- he says don't believe all the Twitter hype. It's 100% BS. (No one has sources)

- he believes they wanted to expand once they say the ACC extend their GOR

- he brought up the point that the only way they will extend the big 12 GOR is if everyone is happy with the new expansion candidates.

- the big 12 is interested in seeing if their tv partners will give them more money to not expand.

-the big 12 is interested in new medias like streaming sites.

Yes haha. I saw you beat me by a few minutes. I can't find a way to delete the thread so I'm hoping someone can merge our threads or delete mine.

Athletic Directors don't control the decisions on expansion - university Presidents do. Frankly, even if Pollard was 100% adamant against additions without a GOR in place, he would could still be overruled. The decision will be up to Leath.

They should expand the GOR. The B12 makes Texas the richest of any other position it could be in. Why wouldn't it want to lock that up??

If you listen to the podcast itself, you come away with the impression that Pollard and Leath are in agreement on this. No GoR extension and they (ISU) won't vote for any expansion candidate. However, ISU still only has one vote, and I don't believe expansion requires unanimity. What is certain is that if ISU is in the minority they aren't going to leave the Big XII because they have no other option.

I also think that, if reports of the current contract terms are close to being accurate, ESPN and Fox probably wouldn't agree to extend this contract no matter how long the GoR are in place (currently 6 more years according to Pollard - I thought it was a little longer). And without a contract extension (on renegotiated terms) there won't be a GoR extension.

As he points out, all of this could just be one huge bluff to see if the media partners will pay them more not to expand.
