End of the article reads to me like he might be out of a job, sad to hear for him it he does get released.

Can't they just put him on IR for the year? Wouldn't insurance pay for his salary in that case? If they like him enough they can stash him there for the year.

True and I have no idea what their thought process is but the article specifically mentions that he secured the 3rd string job by his performance in the preseason last year. Leading me to read that he can't do that this year and that it may cost him a job. I don't wish any ill will and maybe I am reading too much into it but that was just my take.

When your job depends on your personal health, I've never understood why people put themselves in a situation where they could get injured. This could have easily been prevented.
I don't completely buy his story either. When you are trying to kick a door down, how does a foot "slip" into breaking a window. Especially if it just needed "a little nudge". I've never "nudged" anything that resulted in a sturdy object being broken. I think a more realistic story is: He locked his keys in his house and saw that the double doors would be a good way in. There wasn't enough of an opening to get through, so he decided to kick the glass in.
No, it wasn't criminal, but it was beyond a stupid thing to do.... especially if you are a professional athlete.
At least he didn't try ironing his shirt while it was on him.

Not to jump to conclusions, but based on the apparent clumsiness (slipping into a window?) of a professional athlete and the "late-night movie" reference, I'm willing to bet his BAC wasn't 0.00. Despite being a butterfly, I hope he has a speedy recovery.

I stand corrected... still a good chunk of change for your early 20's.

With that salary he got a 15 to 20 year head start on life. I just hope this doesn't turn out to be the greatest mistake of his life that he spends his lifetime wishing and questioning the what ifs. I know a ball player out of GB 97 who tore his arm up and spent the better part of 10 to 15 years spiraling out of control with the what ifs.

He's gotten about 450k. That is nowhere near a 10-15 year head start. Much of that is taken out in taxes, agent fees, paying to work out with a personal trainer, etc. He's probably got closer to $200k (just thrown out of air) in his pocket and that allows him to not work, what 2-3 years, tops?

That's a heck of a head start for someone his age without any debt (or very little of it). That's a little less than 2 years salary for me before taxes.

Smells a little like the start of a Razor thread, no?

Wow, Heinicke has missed a golden opportunity by being careless. Teddy Bridgewater is probably lost for the year and the Vikes have no good alternatives.
Heinicke looked good the few times I saw him last year.
