Dodd: Big 12 to decide on teams before 2016 season starts
Mega thread is getting too big to follow, and this probably shouldn't be buried.

Big 12 prefers to decide on expansion teams before start of 2016 season

From being undecided on expansion to most expecting them to hold tight at 10 to suddenly considering four teams, the Big 12 is now moving forward with gusto

EXCERPT:

The Big 12 would prefer to wrap up the expansion process before the start of the 2016 football season, three persons with knowledge of the ongoing process told CBS Sports on Thursday.

While it's not clear whether a final decision on timing has been made, all three sources said the Big 12 doesn't want expansion to overshadow the league's football season with a drawn-out process that would extend into the 2016 campaign.

The Big 12's season kicks off Sept. 2 when Baylor hosts Northwestern State and Kansas State travels to Stanford.

That is their next scheduled Board meeting, but I think they figured out if they want teams for 2017, they need to move faster.

From the video in the article. They also talked as though it's gonna be 12, not 14. The video said that its BYU #1 and then an AAC team. Could it be 12? Who knows? But Dodd is in the circle, it seems. He broke the expansion decision story couple of weeks ago. Seemed to say that these were the finalists.

That might be what they want but wether they can all come to agreement before then I doubt that.
Anyways I'll be glad when it's all over and we can move on to the actual season and playing of games.

Yeah, they said they didn't want it to spill into the 2016 season. Makes sense and could be distracting for schools.

But but but...A certain Memphis poster has said all these schools have been vetted for years and UCONN is not even on the consideration list. I guess not every "insider" is on the same page...

Dodd said expansion was dead. Dodd didnt break anything but wind.

Big 12 expansion is dead, according to one of most powerful people in the conference.

Oklahoma athletic director Joe Castiglione told CBS Sports the concept of the league growing beyond 10 teams has ended "for the time being."

"There aren't any signs that we'll talk anymore about expansion for a little while," Castiglione added. "We don't have a timeline on it."

They have been vetted for years, and I have never heard anybody at Memphis mention the Big 12 with UConn, although I have heard them mention Houston, SMU, BYU, UCF, USF, Tulane, Boise State, etc.

That is a true statement. I'm sorry you don't like it. I didn't say you wouldn't get in. Who knows? All I said was that based on what I hear, I think it's likely Memphis, Cincy, BYU and Houston. That is my opinion, and I have every right to say it.

I have nothing whatsoever against UConn. I think yours is a fine school. I love playing you guys in basketball. I admire what your MBB and WBB teams have accomplished.

I'm sorry it makes you mad, but that is not my responsibility.

Feel free to keep neg repping me. I think it's silly. But kindly refrain from calling me a liar again. Thanks.

Everybody needs to just relax, nothing we say or post here will decide who the B12 takes. I hope my school gets chosen but I also know that we will be ok if not and will continue to grow.

As we learned with the Big East, even if one of our schools gets chosen there is always a chance the B12 implodes and we are back together again.

I think practically all of us will get in sooner or later.

i have to think AAC schools would need to pay a lot more than $10 million to leave in time for the 2017 season considering the 27 month notice requirement. The expedited timeline seems to fit better with BYU than any AAC school. BYU would just need to clear out future football schedules.

Well....not sure Sep 2 is the date since no one in their right mind would actually consider BU v. Northwestern State or any Kansas or KSU football game part of a responsible "season."

BYU is a no-brainier, Cincy is a necessity, UH is snuggled in Texas pocket. That leaves one opening for a bunch of other hopefuls.

This gonna be fun......

That article was from July 6th and at that point it was dead. I didn't say he foresaw it happening when it did, he broke the story when the Big12 ACTUALLY decided to expand s couple of weeks ago and it was due to the ACC TV deal. And he was the first to break it and someone inside gave him that info. He's credible. Now, he probably doesn't know who is in or out for sure and is guessing based in some intel, but nobody will know for sure until after the Big12 votes.

Probably cost 15-20 million each (based on past history) to leave for 2017.
