"as early as" = at the earliest.
3 weeks = 6 more days from now

Patience = something people used to have, and believe to be a virtue.

The first CAA football game starts in 17 days. Most leagues announce their TV deals in the winter. We're here half-assing our book report at 6am right before school.

The first CAA game is nationally televised and not relevant to the discussion; and who cares when the announcement is made as long as it is made in time for the deadline.

What they have suggested does not sound like half-assing. CBS Digital + Twitter is far superior to any other option outside of possibly ESPN3. It is 100x superior to NBC Sports or CSN mid-atlantic where I actually have to be at a TV to watch.

Old timer here. What's wrong with being at a TV to watch a JMU football game?

Any online option also means you can watch on your tv with an Apple TV, Chromecast, Roku, Fire Stick, etc. I recognize everyone doesn't have one of these devices, but online options are definitely better for anyone who does have one. And with the different options available there's really no reason for anyone not to have one. I assure you that if you can work a cell phone, you can work any of the above devices to stream content on your tv.

Nothing is wrong with it other than its restrictive when it is the only option. Flexibility in viewing is everything and that is a reason Netflix and other digital platforms are the future. If the CAA goes digital, I can still watch on my TV... and my phone, tablet, and laptop.

This is like how CDs still exist for music and my car has a CD player and I still own some CDs, but digital music is the new normal. I can digitally put every song in the entire world in my pocket (amazon prime unlimited / spotify) and take them anywhere in the world. Why restrict this to only 18 songs on a CD if I dont have to. CDs are fine. Digital is better due to flexibility.

An example from my life: I have X1 by Xfinity which has Netflix built in. I can watch Netflix from my TV at home, on a tablet in a hotel room, on my phone in an uber, on a laptop at work, or any other place using wifi or mobile data.

You do realize we're still talking about being able to watch it on TV, but not all of us live in a regional broadcast area or have cable, right? If it's on Twitter, ESPN3, etc you can watch on a TV, computer, phone, tablet...anything.

Another great point - JMU fans from all over the world can watch not just ones from the mid-atlantic.

When something is available on a real tv channel and not streaming, i watch it on the tv channel 10 times out of 10. It's just more convenient IMO.

Won't be able to watch a game at a local watering hole, which I could on NBC Sports channel or Comcast. I suppose I could still go and plop the laptop on the bar, but I really don't want to be that guy.

Whatever medium is decided upon, I hope it will include some sort of replay or recording option. Though ESPN3 tethers me to a device, at least I know I can watch the game later if I can't watch live. Having to watch only at home AND only live, would be a big step back for me.

RE: New CAA TV deal in the works
If JMU at ECU was on CSN-MA then a JMU alum/fan currently living in Seattle would have the following viewing opportunities:
(a) none

Since the game is on ESPN3, this same Seattle based fan could watch from:
(a) Home on their TV (ESPN College Extra, native smart TV app, Roku, Chromecast, Fire Stick, Playstation Vue, Sling, Youtube TV, etc)
(b) Literally anywhere else using a tablet or mobile device and the ESPN app.

Call me old fashioned, but I don't even know what those are.

I don't want to watch a game on a phone or laptop. Now if the game is online I guess I could connect my laptop to my 60 inch flatscreen home theater surround in the man cave. But what about recording the games + pause/fast forward/rewind that you can do with a DVR?

Those are ways to watch it on your TV. You can replay the game whenever you'd like.

Yep. Even if I go to the game I like to watch a recording of it later.

None. With the ability to replay archived games, do you really need to record? The real question is how long does archived content take to get put up after it's over and how long does it stay archived before disappearing? We'll have to see.

They actually have an advantage - you don't have to store locally on your own drive so you don't have to make choices on what to keep when you run out of space.
