RE: "Views: From top to bottom, NIU Athletics not ready for jump to AAC"
I am currently in Chicago for work SageSummt 2016 not lalapalooza that is freaking blaring outside tonight.

I have been around and looked in airport hotel gift shops and even around navy pier.

I have not seen any niu apparel at all. It's all the other colleges and a lot of Notre.
A lot of baseball too.

This is strange as even walking around I have not seen any NIU apparel being worn.

Heck I ran into a few ECU alumni up here.

In comparison to Raleigh Durham - we have the pro hockey team which is awesome but we love our college sports. It's a Mecca for it and ECU is everywhere.

I am kind of worried niu does not command the market of Chicago all that well. I mean heck the big 10 was pretty big here earlier in the week in their meetings at the Hyatt regency on the 26th. Seems like a bastion of the Big 10

No, we don't OWN the Chicago market. It's a pro sports town first, then (sadly) Notre Dame, then Illini, the NU, THEN NIU. However, we offer ACCESS to the Chicago market. And Chicago does tune into our games.. our ratings (and especially our Orange Bowl ratings) prove that in spades

NIU helps the TV side of the conference which will be very vulnerable

2015 season AAC, NIU & Toledo(just for comparison) conference games nationally televised Tues-Fri...

Thursday, September 24

Friday, October 30
188K ECU UConn 7:00 PM ESPNU

Tuesday, November 3
856K N. Illinois Toledo 8:00 PM ESPN2
As is would have been the 5th highest rated weeknight conference game for the AAC...and 3rd highest on ESPN2.

Friday, November 6
1.080M Temple SMU 7:55 PM ESPN2

Tuesday, November 10
561K Toledo C. Mich. 8:00 PM ESPN2

Wednesday, November 11
191K N. Illinois Buffalo 8:00 PM ESPNU
Better ratings than all 3 AAC weeknight games on ESPNU

Tuesday, November 17
527K Toledo BGSU 6:00 PM ESPN2

Wednesday, November 18

Tuesday, November 24

Best ratings on ESPNU that I have ever seen for a G5vG5 matchup.
Not only does this game have higher ratings than every other AAC matchup on ESPNU and is better than one AAC game each on ESPN and ESPN2.

Thursday, November 26 (Thanksgiving)
388K USF UCF 7:27 PM ESPN

...and within seconds of my post, my last paranoid stalker suddenly appears, like a wild Pokémon bird! You know you are the only idiot left who still believes this crap? At least I made peace with the penultimate one, once he came to his senses.

They don't even have a sliver of the Chicago market. I've tried to people this.

I spent a lot of time in Chicago and never once saw anything NIU related. Like you, I was actually looking for it too.

All someone has to do is look at the reported attendance for NIU games. They don't even control the market of their own campus, how can anyone think they actually have a piece of the Chicago market?

Yeah Chicago is a little different in that respect. This week is pretty crazy with Lollapalooza in town and you also have the annual Cubs - White Sox Crosstown Classic going so there is a heavy baseball presence right now. Trophy Room is a good NIU bar downtown and where a lot of the city people meet to watch games.

Yeah, he has more issues than a magazine; me thinks he must suffer from PTSD, because he sees the "enemy" everywhere.

Nah Pony is just a cynic. He's alright, just an ornery old codger.

Now Flyhawk? There's a boy with some screws loose. He follows me around finding anything NIU and bashing it because i said something he didn't agree with once. Dude is just sad...

Sounds just like PonyBoy; he literally goes out of his way to randomly accuse me of being BEH, after the 2 or 3 others who used to do the same, came to their senses and acquiesced.
