We won 9 games last year and lost in both the cusa champ game and bowl game to Washington.

And your coach left because he saw the writing on the wall. Look,it doesn't really matter anyway because when we loose teams this league is screwed.

Our coach left to be the Offensive Coordinator of a NFL team and I hope no one is "loosing" teams.

Some of those Cincy teams coached by Huggins were elite. I still remember feeling really bad for Bearcat fans when Kenyon Martin broke his leg just before the NCAA tourney. They had a good chance to be National Champs that year.

RE: Southern Miss
Southern Miss. does not fit the AAC model, which is:

Schools in large cities with big potential. There is also an academic component.

This is why schools such as Temple, Memphis and Tulane were selected when a high performing USM was available. The only exception is ECU which has great attendance, i.e. money USM does not have.

USM had a good team for years, but those days are gone. It is more likely to quit football or drop to bowl championship level than continue as is. The money is gone
and competing without it is not happening.

There are a number of available schools that do fit the model. It will not be broken for USM.

I agree, the ship has sailed for USM...if we continue to stay in CUSA, period! But you know as well as I do, if USM were invited to the AAC then the tide would be turned. That's a fact..!

Imagine if your beloved school was still held back in CUSA, same would be said about you. But the AAC helped your school by adding you...and it would help USM too...the addition of your school helped the AAC...and the addition of USM would help the AAC. That's it in a nutshell.

CUSA is currently as terrible of a conference as there has ever been. If you’d have asked me 10 years ago to make up the worst conference that I possibly could have, it would not have been anywhere near as bad as what CUSA is now. I’m going to generally stop talking CUSA, before I get sick.

On to the AAC. Again, it would be great to have home/homes again with the likes of Memphis, ECU, SMU, Houston (though they are destined for the Big 12 imo). Heck, it would even be nice to play Tulame and Tulsa compared to our current conference mates. I really don’t like UCF or USF very much, but I would take great pride in defeating those schools again. Honestly, when they joined CUSA, it was an embarrassment. Everyone felt the same about them them, as people do now about their Florida counterparts, the Ocean and Airport (FAU & FIU), UTSA, Old Dominion, Charlotte, North Texas, West Kentucky and whoever else is in CUSA (minus Marshall and Rice). Now that I think about USF and UCF, they are still an embarrassment, but I’d look forward to kicking them around the football field again. Tulsa, I like you Tulsa, but we all felt (and feel), almost the same about you.

Speaking of kicking teams around the football field, I’d be thrilled to have the chance to kick the rest of the AAC around the football field again. I say “again”, bc each of you remember (or should), how Southern Miss dominated your football programs for years and years. Each of you know in your heart, that if joining the Big 12 was solely based on picking the best and historically most prolific program, that Southern Miss would be the team to add over every single AAC team. Lets take a look at some history that’s more current than ancient.

USM vs. Memphis - 32-17-1
USM vs. Tulame - 23-7
USM vs. ECU - 38-26-12
USM vs. Houston - 13-9-4
USM vs. SMU - 3-1
USM vs. USF - 3-1
USM vs. UCF - 6-2
USM vs. Navy - 1-0
USM vs. Louisville - 15-10-1 (just bc)

Temple and UCON, lets just be honest here and speak frankly…..your football is a joke. But hey, you have a great rep in basketball, so kudos to that and would like to add you to the above list as well.

Cincy, I don’t like you. Your teams have always been dirty and no one cares about Cincy in football. In basketball, you could never make it out of the first round for some reason, and I always pulled for yall back in the day. I don’t like Cincy.

I like ECU, nothing bad to say about you guys.

Memphis, its time for us to put you back in your place. I know you’re scared of USM, but that’s ok, its normal. Nevertheless, it would still be great to play you guys again. The same can be said for Houston (if you weren’t leaving) and SMU. USF, UCF….I want to curb stomp your weak little programs again! I sure hope we get that opportunity!

Tulane…..lol.

In all seriousness, I really would be ecstatic to join all you guys again in a conference. Hope it happens. Though everything I said above is the truth. :)

I respect the hell out of So Miss. They have a great tradition very similar to ECU. You have gotten screwed with all this realignment worse than anyone.

It's a corrupt system. Not based on merit but on tv market and other factors. If it was based on "on the field" achievement and excellence of a football program So Miss would be ahead of a lot of schools in the AAC and the current P5.

And to work with one of his best friends. Monken turned down overtures from P5 teams in the offseason, but felt the opportunity to be an OC in the NFL with one of his best friends being the head coach was too good to turn down.

Did the OP really come on here and say that Uconn and Temple football is awful? Id put a note that both would ball stomp USM into the next century if they played right now.

and I love how pumped you get about beating USF back in the day. We were divsion 2 the first time we played. Your other 2 wins came during our first 4 years of playing. You should be embarrassed that a program that was 3 years old beat you.... but Congrats. If we were to play now, lt would be considered a hate crime what we do to you.

I personally see no point in adding a school in the middle of nowhere. Rather just stay at 9/10/11 teams that we have.

Look, the game is over for all of us. A depleted AAC conf is toast and is not gking to help USM with anything. I am now putting ECU in the official we are screwed column. ESPN is going to reduce money and exposure. Promise I am not trying to be an ass, but once the two or 4 schools get the golden life raft, all our schools are essential in the sh8t can. I think there will be nothing to hold back the P5 from an official split. When that happens nothing is going to stop them from adding 85 schollys to their teams.

The first year we played Southern Miss in 2000, believe we were 1-A transitional, so no we were not D2. In 2002 when we beat USM, this was our 6th year of football, not 3rd, then we lost to them in 03 and 04 when we were between good QB's...after the Blackwell era, but before the Grothe era. Our QB's sucked horribly during 03-05...Banks, Julmiste, Fisher, etc.

Southern Miss is a good program, and I for one, would like to see them added to AAC, if we lose teams.

That's not going to happen; once Boise State leaves for the BIG 12, the MWC, like its much maligned MTN network, will go the way of the Dodo.

How many years has it been since we took your undefeated Sugar Bowl-bound team to the woodshed, trashing your Heisman candidate quarterback and making his girlfriend cry, and flew our unworthy asses back to Hattiesburg with the C-USM championship. Was that decades ago? Please remind me how our time has passed. You folks have such short memories. Geez.
