I couldn't disagree more. Whether this ends up making any difference I want ECU to try as hard as possible to get in the conversation. I'd rather have some idiots on ESPN laugh at ECU for trying than ECU not try. I'll give up being an ECU fan the day ECU quits trying and "accepts their place."

No one is saying ECU shouldn't try, but this carries as much weight as a poster here advocating for ECU to get an invite. It's like the governor of NC saw that the governor of TX advocated for Houston so he advocated for ECU not knowing that the TX governor actually had some sway in the whole thing.

Of course they knew the TX governor had more leverage (not as much as the Lieutenant Governor, but some nevertheless). This is purely about the fact that these two men are running against one another for the Governor's Mansion this fall. Do you really think they are stupid enough to pass up this opportunity to pander to all of eastern North Carolina?

I totally agree it's pandering. Any politician worth his or her salt better be doing the same damn thing.

Do you think Governors never speak to one another? They're both members of RGA. We will also have our US Senators lobbying on our behalf and a letter should come out this week from them.

How has that helped ECU so far in the realignment game? I'm just saying that it's not an effective method to get an actual invite. If it's the governor of a state that has an existing member it matters (See Virginia/Virginia Tech and Texas/Tech/Baylor) if it's the governor of a state that isn't in the conference it doesn't.

Maybe not governors but West Virginia's senators certainly helped them get into the B12: http://content.usatoday.com/communities/...5koIr_EynM

Kentucky's McConnell also tried to I ntervene on behalf of Louisville but was unsuccessful. I suppose that's because West Virginia had a better football history and television ratings than the Cardinals. Both schools suck, so that was a non-factor.

The ACC is not going to happen for ECU. It's Big 12 / SEC or bust.

Then let's take the SEC.

Cheers!

Yeah it's pandering by scum bag politicians. Yeah it's probably futile. But what the hell do you want ECU to do??? We are a school that keeps getting left behind. First with the original Big East, even the CUSA formation, then the next water downed Big East and now the brand new AAC is going to get torn apart by the Big 12 probably. We are a school with a rapid college football fanbase and belong with other football schools and can't catch a freaking break. It freaking SUCKS!!!
Cheers!

ACC definitely needs a 5th NC team. See UH fans for details.

LOL yeah even token political support is a massive improvement from silence and actively trying to prevent us from even obtaining University status.

He really isn't a buffoon. But he is a Republican, so if he wants to get elected he has to act like one.

Not too throw cold water on you but do think possibly that Ohio, Connecticut, Tennessee, Florida, Colorado and Idaho will have similar letters? Texas and Houston are looking quid pro quo, Texas appears to have three votes that can block anything and everyone knows this. If expansion is to occur, it will be who Texas is OK with. Texas knows the can survive if the B12 folds, any other school other than Oklahoma has no such assurance.

I'm not sure if those states will or not but I just know we're exerting some political influence right now that quite frankly I didn't know we had.
