Governor McCrory issues support statement / letter:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(919) 814-2100
Wednesday, July 27, 2016 govpress@nc.gov
Raleigh, N.C. - Governor Pat McCrory has written a letter of support for East Carolina University's request for membership consideration in the Big 12 Conference. In his letter to Big 12 Conference Commissioner Bob Bowlsby, Governor McCrory highlights East Carolina University's academic and athletic success, as well as North Carolina's tradition of excellence in higher education and commitment to intercollegiate athletics.
Governor McCrory's letter reads:
East Carolina University is positioned both institutionally and athletically to be a successful and valuable member of the Big 12 Conference. Our state has a rich tradition of public universities with both excellent academic prowess and deep commitments to intercollegiate athletics. East Carolina University follows in that rich tradition and is prepared to strengthen that legacy.
East Carolina University’s membership in the Big 12 would deliver the entire state of North Carolina. In addition to the 16,828 members of the Pirate Club and the more than 45,000 Pirate fans that attend home football games in Greenville, East Carolina University would provide the Big 12 a substantial presence throughout the 9th largest state in the country and leverage the combined television markets of Greenville, Raleigh, Wilmington and Charlotte.
On behalf of our more than 10,000,000 residents, and in support of the 28,000 current students and over 150,000 living alumni, the great State of North Carolina stands supportive of East Carolina University’s request for membership consideration in the Big 12 Conference.

Curious, I keep seeing 16,000 Pirate Club members but the Student Pirate Club makes up 9,800 or something like that. SO does ECU only have 6200 donors? Its a question i've always been asked but never known the answer.

Do not believe student pirate club is included in that number.

Bingo. We may not get in the Big12 but at least we are learning how to get our message out there. The more the better.

We have suffered for years bc those outside of our region had no idea what ECU had accomplished or what the school was all about.

The original Big East formation and subsequent expansions were when we should've had this support!!

Better late than never.

There is a reason ECU was rebuffed from the Big East for years and years, only to get a FBall only in the last days.

The Big 12 is a great basketball conference too... and if you don't think they have seen how ECU keeps neglecting fixing their basketball program in the AAC, you're living in fantasy land.

ECU is a victim of some very bad leadership. These letters should have a more well-rounded athletics program to brag about.

Yeah because USF, UCF, and Virginia Tech all had great basketball programs when they were invited to join the Big East. B.S. ECU's basketball would have benefitted greatly from early big east inclusion.

Our football and baseball are both good. I agree basketball is bad but it not unlike several others schools.

Cooper did remove him from office and charged him. Not his fault Nifong avoided jail. He did at least step up take over the case reviewed the evidence and dismissed it and went after Nifong.

The stripper did end up in jail in drug charges. Krama.

This gets asked too often. Student Pirate Club is not included in the Pirate Club membership numbers.

Student Pirate Club in it of itself is the largest student-only booster club in the NCAA.

The shame of the Duke Lacrosse story was they lost essentially a year off their life on a fake witch hunt. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton never apologize to the general public about ruining the lives of these kids. That is something that should have been discussed about letting the process finish before you destroy someone in public. Michael Brown was another case they jumped to conclusions before getting the facts.

How can you say that?

ECU is now playing UConn, Memphis, Cincinnati, Temple, etc, (plenty of traditional basketball programs) and hasn't done squat.

In fact, ECU hasn't done anything different in a multiple-bid conference than you did in a 1-bid CUSA.

You're still hoping for Lebo to improve. You gave him a VOTE OF CONFIDENCE!! 03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao
