Our football and baseball are both good. I agree basketball is bad but it not unlike several others schools.

How can you say that?

ECU is now playing UConn, Memphis, Cincinnati, Temple, etc, (plenty of traditional basketball programs) and hasn't done squat.

In fact, ECU hasn't done anything different in a multiple-bid conference than you did in a 1-bid CUSA.

good point...I just believe in order to be considered a decent conference, the AAC will have to be a consistent 5 to 6 bid conference in bball, with 4 to 6 top 25 teams in football.

I actually think everybody in this conference should get in the P5.

Governor's statement / letter:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(919) 814-2100
Wednesday, July 27, 2016 govpress@nc.gov
Raleigh, N.C. - Governor Pat McCrory has written a letter of support for East Carolina University's request for membership consideration in the Big 12 Conference. In his letter to Big 12 Conference Commissioner Bob Bowlsby, Governor McCrory highlights East Carolina University's academic and athletic success, as well as North Carolina's tradition of excellence in higher education and commitment to intercollegiate athletics.
Governor McCrory's letter reads:

East Carolina University is positioned both institutionally and athletically to be a successful and valuable member of the Big 12 Conference. Our state has a rich tradition of public universities with both excellent academic prowess and deep commitments to intercollegiate athletics. East Carolina University follows in that rich tradition and is prepared to strengthen that legacy.

East Carolina University’s membership in the Big 12 would deliver the entire state of North Carolina. In addition to the 16,828 members of the Pirate Club and the more than 45,000 Pirate fans that attend home football games in Greenville, East Carolina University would provide the Big 12 a substantial presence throughout the 9th largest state in the country and leverage the combined television markets of Greenville, Raleigh, Wilmington and Charlotte.

On behalf of our more than 10,000,000 residents, and in support of the 28,000 current students and over 150,000 living alumni, the great State of North Carolina stands supportive of East Carolina University’s request for membership consideration in the Big 12 Conference.

The governor should invite all the B12 school presidents to visit during the NBA allstar game weekend to see how awesome and progressive the state is 03-lmfao

This x1000. If North Carolina legislators care so much about sports, why didn't they use this as an opportunity to push for the change/repeal of HB2? The NBA, PGA, and NCAA are threatening action against the state of North Carolina because the same legislators have failed to protect LGBTQ rights.

Seriously don't want to make this political, but NC laws are virtually identical to those of 28 other states. The NC law just made the biggest splash in the national news because a republican legislature and governor in an election year signed off on it.

It's a non issue in Big12 expansion

You're still hoping for Lebo to improve. You gave him a VOTE OF CONFIDENCE!! 03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao

I'm not defending Lebo. He hasn't gotten the job done but has done as well or better than others we've had.

Your OP mentioned that ECU hasn't moved up in conferences bc of basketball. I disagree. As I stated, Va Tech, UCF, USF, and many others were and still are just as bad in basketball over the years as ECU and got the call. The original big east power brokers should have taken ECU and other football first schools (UCF) long ago. If they had things may have turned out different.

So why do you single out ECU basketball? Yes we haven't done much since joining the AAC but it's still fairly early. We've only been in for what two years? What has USF done in basketball? UCF? Tulane?

I believe that if ECU had been chosen years ago when Va Tech and Miami, etc were added to the original big east it would have been enough to improve basketball significantly. Playing in a BCS league with the great basketball schools would have helped ECU.

All that said, realignment is all about FOOTBALL. The mentality of basketball being soooo important is the main reason the old Big East failed. Their leaders always had a basketball first mentality and that is why football does not exist anymore for the big east. And why schools like Miami and VT left in the first place. It's why they were eventually kicked out of the BCS.

Basketball doesn't matter as much as you think. It helps but it's way behind football in importance.
