RE: Texas B12-Southwest Conference
You are mistaking playing politics....to get what you really want by pretending to support something you really don't want...for real and actual support for the thing you really don't want.

Remember, all UT and TTU have said is that they welcome the consideration of UH for the Big 12.

If "consideration" would get them more system funding and a new campus then they would gladly "consider" Sam Houston State for membership too.

Oklahoma schools weren't part of southwest conference. It should have been called the Texas Conference + Arky.

UT and OU are going to milk the remaining of the TV contract for every dollar they can. Then they leave at the end of the GOR while have the new conference designation determined way before hand.

This. Conference moves are slow. The Big 12 will not die, ever. It will add replacements. Exit fees WILL be collected.

Both were actually in the SWC during the early days.

I'll file that under "things I didn't know".

I actually think a real southwestern conference would be cool. Problem is I don't think the big 12 can get an Arizona school and I don't think they want New Mexico. But if they could land Arizona, San Diego St., BYU, and Colorado St. it would make for an alright conference I would think. Nothing I'd want to be part of for long, but not bad.

You'd have to get the Southern Cal schools to 1) join and 2) not ***** about BYU

But if you could you'd have a pretty decent conference that lived up to the SWC name:

SWC West

Southern Cal
UCLA
Arizona State
Arizona
Utah
BYU
Colorado

New Mexico
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
Texas
Texas Tech
TCU
BU

Texas and OU lose the little brother headaches if they leave a stable conference

lol...when the SWC imploded, every single member was from Texas. While the Big12 will be Texas heavy if they add another Texas member, its not much different from the Pac12 that has 4 members in one state (California). Hell, the Pac12 has 2 members in Oregon (population-4 million). That's one school for every 2 million in population. With 5 schools in Texas the ratio is 1 school for every 5.4 million in population. That's not really an unusual ratio--in fact its fairly average.

Actually, you're wrong on that. OU and OSU was part of the conference until OU left in the mid 1910's and OSU left in 1925, I believe.

Not mad?

How about this... The Big 12 has a contract bowl with the SEC...

Your precious ACC has the Orange Bowl with no one... (besides a loose ND tie in) Good at hoops tho
