predict UNC will have a disappointing season, they got away with a really bad defense last year due to their offense and playing teams that were struggling on offense.

Their defense will be much improved in their second season under Gene. Similar to when Brent came to Clemson. I expect them to be a top 40 Defense.

I dunno about much improved. Their front seven isn't great and isn't especially big so I expect them to be susceptible to the run again this year.

If VT can get by TN with no major injuries, look out ACC Coastal. If the Hokie somehow get to the ND game undefeated, that could be a playoff elimination game. Just saying...

Yeah they have all new linebackers but they should be able to drop a safety in box as they have two excellent corners so they won't have to play so passive

unc had a lot of close wins last year even with a good offense.

unc reminds me of some past clemson teams. a decent but flawed team that gets overhyped by people.

watch out for 'tarheeling' and 'pulling a tarheel' to become popularized.

Georgia Tech:

1. I expect this years defense to rival the 2008 group with defensive production. This defense will be fundamentally sound across every level and category. I think this group has that much potential and will get it done on the field. This means Tech D will finally put it all together.

2. Freddie Burden, after watching his father die and playing injured he is healthy and dedicating this season to his late father. My money is he plays like a man possessed and provides the leadership the 2014 OL had!!

3. Justin Thomas!!!!! is the man at GT, and he has already shown us a lot of what he can provide. I fully expect Thomas to be at his 2014 form and giving the offense its edge back.

4. They will be healthier!! No way they have to play 25 freshman again this year!!

I predict a statistical average year for GT: 7-6 or so.

The biggest problem will be absolutely no pass rush now that Gotsis is gone combined with a younger secondary backing that lack of pass rush up. And probably yet another parade of offensive line whiffs and belly flops.

On the bright side, with opponents scoring so quickly, GT should dominate time of possession.

RE: Team Y wins the Coastal division because...
The Coastal is wide open. The only two picks I feel comfortable with are UNC and Mami. I think their showdown on October 15 will decide the Coastal. Here are my bad predictions; but I can see anything playing out really.

10-2 North Carolina
9-3 Miami
8-4 Pitt
7-5 Virginia Tech
6-6 Duke
5-7 Georgia Tech
4-8 Virginia

The Atlantic thread is locked so I'll throw in my awful predictions here: Clemson is a safe pick. UofL and FSU will duke it out for NY6 on September 17. The division will be decided on October 1 (my prediction) between UofL-Clemson or on October 29 between FSU-Clemson.

12-0 Clemson
11-1 Louisville
10-2 Florida State
6-6 Syracuse
5-7 NC State
5-7 Boston College
4-8 Wake Forest

Clemson will beat Alabama in a rematch for the title.

Houston is going to be tough for them. I have a hard time seeing U of L going better than 10-2

They do have a pretty easy schedule. There are really only 3 games all year that they should be in danger of losing. Duke and Virginia are very favorable crossover games in conference.

I just can't see 2-1 between Clemson FSU and UH.

Not in front of my computer, so I'm doing this from memory...

Clemson plays GT and Pitt.
FSU has Miami and UNC.
U of L plays UVA and Duke, iirc.

Good for my beloved Fuente; not so sure for the hated VT

I really want to see what Fuente can do at VT.

As for the question, right now I have a hard time not seeing UNC winning it.

New QB and Miami has a relevant coach. I think Miami should be the favorite.
