RE: Football picked 3rd in CAA
Only RU had more pre season all CAA (7). JMU & W&M tied with 5 (2 of W&M's are kicker & punter).. JMU ironically more on defense (3) than offense (2)..More ironically JMU was the only team with 3 on defense....

Didn't even see the preseason team til today, but we can't get Abdullah OR Johnson on the preseason list? That's gotta be the best RB tandem in the league and no love at all. Also saw we didn't get a single first place vote from the league gotta be kidding, if our defense steps up and the QB play improves a bit we will be right there at the end for the title. That isn't a far fetched dream either.

Dukes lost to both teams picked above them. New coach(es), no Vad. Easy for me to see no 1st place votes. I guess you could maybe argue whoever gave Maine a 1st place vote should have given it to the Dukes. Otherwise, I think the league will be much stronger this year.

Truth but at the same time no one is really expecting us to miss a beat and people are talking about an improved D. Improved D + same strong running game + ???QB = I feel at least one vote based on last year's finish, especially with only a 3pt loss to W&M with the same QB from this year (assuming he stays QB1)

I agree with 82. While we (hopefully) will have a greatly improved D, the unknowns with our QB and coaching staff means there is no way I would give us a first place vote. I think 3rd is a good spot for us to start at.

While I do understand this thinking, it's just not for me. I want JMU to be at the top of every thing I see or read. Imagine NDSU fans saying, "Sure wish the media, coaches, and other teams would stop putting us at the top of all the FCS polls year in and year out because it puts a target on our back."

I seriously doubt when they changed coaches a couple years ago that they wanted to be removed as the best of the FCS so their coach wouldn't have that burden. I say bring on the challenge of taking on the best the competition can throw at us and the challenge of staying at the top.

It just seems to be settling for something less than great to say it's okay for someone else to take the lead.

RE: Football picked 3rd in CAA
Should we be happy with a predicted 3rd place finish behind those 2 schools? It always bothers me when they are even in the same ball game as JMU. It kind of goes against the thinking we have with the Sunbelt, if we joined that conference, we would be at a disadvantage because of our higher academics. Higher academics hasn't hurt RU or WM against us in football, historically. I look at it like if Duke or Wake Forest held their own against VT. It shouldn't happen.
Either we are doing less with more or those 2 schools are doing something we are not, considering their disadvantaged academics.

Preseason rankings mean absolutely nothing, so this doesn't bother me at all.

I agree rankings mean nothing, it's one game at a time.
