Former USM basketball star shot and killed in Chicago
Former Southern Miss basketball star Jonathon Mills was shot multiple times and killed not far from his home in Chicago today. He had reportedly been working out in recent weeks in his old high school in hopes of playing ball overseas. He had 2 daughters.

Mills was as tough as nails on the court. He was a 6-5 warrior that played like a 6'10 player due to his physical and mental toughness and his desire to win. He was a beast on the boards. Mills was the kind of player that you loved if he was playing for your team and absolutely hated if he was playing against you (but you still had a great respect for him). Jonathon Mills was 26 years young.

Who is the Southern Miss poster with the Saq Stone dunk on Ole Miss and Millsy just goes bezerk!

Would love to see that right-about now. I immediately thought about that .gif as soon as I heard this horrible news.

Very sad news and I'm heartbroken!

He was one of those blue collar, hardworking players who always played with a chip on his shoulders and always gave 110%- the epitome of Southern Miss. Not only that, he was a force within the Hattiesburg community. I've seen pictures shared of him visiting with the Dubard School for Language Disorders on campus as well as with groups for children with other disabilities. He, along with Neil Watson, orchestrated some memorable Southern Miss basketball teams.

Millsy was classic Southern Miss. His heart was 3 times bigger than his body.

DN, the dunk video was actually not Saiquon. That was Torye Pelham. He ran right up to where we were sitting and flexed after that. Best times.

RE: Former USM basketball star shot and killed in Chicago
I read in an article that Mills was shot at 1:30 in the afternoon after leaving a store. Apparently a car pulled up and opened fire on him. He had on his basketball clothes and was headed to workout at his old high school. His high school coach was waiting on him at the gym. JMills was planning on playing overseas.

Another former player tweeted that Mills had just told some people to find somewhere else to sell their weed, that he was going to keep this block clean. Then he was shot shortly after that.

Hated it when I heard this news. Just terrible.

Was one of my favorite basketball Eagles.
