A not completely unlikely scenario. 03-banghead

In terms of favorites for AAC additions, I believe UAB to be at least the equal of USM, Marshall, ODU and any in the Sunbelt except GA State (which has the Atlanta location in its favor). Charlotte has its financial center support going for it (as its new pro teams illustrate). Tulane and Rice are in great locations, but being relatively small private schools works against them in the modern sports market thinking.

When the Big 12 expands, I expect at least one of the AAC's Florida schools to be taken (USF or UCF), BYU (if it wishes), Houston or Colorado State, Cinncy or Memphis to be added. The locations of the ones left out will influence the AACs selection of replacements.

conference realignment
Outside of more interference and meddling from Watts and the BOT, there's no way in my mind UAB isn't considered before ODU, Charlotte, and USM. Maybe Marshall could get a look before us, but outside of that I don't see it.

And again, this is assuming that should we get called that we actually return the call or express interest.

Southern Miss has a like 20 million budget.

If we end up in CUSA Cobb is likely looking for a job. Fans are aware that with the merger and Turner Field the stars are aligned for us to go to the AAC. We have a 50k seat stadium that exists today.

Unless the AAC thinks of UAB, as many do, as a glorified startup with questionable fan support and a less than enthusiatic administration that takes its marching orders from outside influences potentially making it more difficult for whatever conference UAB is in. It would help a great deal if the new downtown stadium was announced with firm funding next week...

RE: conference realignment
According to AAC Commish "some" AAC school will be leaving. When I hear some, I think of at least 3. If 3 teams leave and Memphis/Cincy are in that group then UAB will have a very good chance. Because as much as this will be a football move, there is not a great deal of difference between UAB and the others... If it was about the quality of current team, then USM would have gotten in over Tulane last time. it's about market and investment. When you add the Birmingham is a football market and we have an $40 million investment and a BJCC Authority who can vouch that a stadium will be here by the '19 season. It make UAB just as attractive as Tulane was when they were invited. Plus the recent academic rankings. Will we get the nod? I don't know, but with Hatton leading the charge you best believe that we will have as good a shot as anyone.

I hope you're right. I have the utmost confidence in our foundation, but just as much lack of confidence in our administration.

+1, will the admin undermine/stall long enough for us to get left behind once more?

conference realignment
Does anyone know if the foundation is actually doing anything to promote us and position us should teams leave the AAC?
