And fine china is required because I will be breaking out the always wonderful Nathan's beef franks. These are to be eaten by themselves, never to be lowered to the level of Kahn's wieners with chili and cheese.

that's just good common sense. i might also suggest a hearty burgundy from the practical hills of western sonoma. california is doing extraordinary things with the french varietal. but that's more of an after breakfast autumn drink

Sonomas are truly awesome wines. Certainly give Napas a run for their money.

Can't really go wrong with anything Central-Northern Cal.

Jungle Jim's has a great feature in their wine section. Two displays where they feature their "Favorite Wines Under $10" and "Favorite Wines under $20". I have seriously never tried a wine from these two areas I didn't like... I'm sure you might find a Merlot or Riesling from there you might like. Each wine also has a little profile they write out about them.

with the quality of california wines, there's little reason to spring for anything else. i'm far from even being a novice but i read a book about california wines. the judgement of paris in 1976. i didn't read the book in '76, that's just when the competition was

Capped off a night a couple of weekends ago by sharing a bottle of Robert Mondavi Borboun barrel Cabernet. There was a lot of puking the next day.

You need something that can stand up to that kind of spice like a malbec, petite sirah, or its cousin a peppery shiraz.

Or flip the script and don't even try the toe to toe match - go for a big fruity white like a Chardonnay, Viognier or Vermentino.
