It could be years before a real budget is put in place as politics will continue to delay any real progress and I don't foresee that changing anytime soon. At some point I think you just have to say its time to move the upgrades forward if the money is there. Obviously a delicate subject but the way the state moves don't expect any meaningful resolution soon.
Unfortunately it might hold it back for quite a while... We'll see how bold STF gets a little closer to the start of the season. If we have an unexpectedly good year, he might pop the lid early

That is what I am hoping. I definitely understand both sides here but realistically the state budget will continue to be a looming issue for years. They just came off a full year with no budget and the interim budget is basically what they had before so you are pushing 18 months with no real reform. I doubt come November it will suddenly get ironed out. I think this will continue to be a long drawn out process.

This "crisis" has been going on for some time. Is every State school putting stuff on hold? Didn't ISU (football) and U of I (basketball) complete renovations recently? Were their improvement started when there WAS a budget?

I don't get it when you (supposedly) have the money. Seems to be a lot of powerful people trying to keep their image up and are afraid of the backlash. Or basically, really don't give a <rap about athletics.

If this is actually privately funded, what the hell difference does it make when it takes off? It's privately funded for a specific purpose at a specific school. It's not like you can take private funds for this and put them towards another public school's bailout. If they need money so bad, I'd suggest they find private funding for their cause. U of I wouldn't give a rats ass if they needed something done. Why should NIU?

exactly, thats what I was thinking. If people/companies donated specifically to NIU Athletics, thats up to them. You can't tell them to give their money to WIU/EIU instead.

Right, the State Farm Center renovations have been privately-funded so once UI had the funding in place they went ahead and built. Whether or not there was a state budget in place was of no consequence.

How confident are these folks talking about STF signing an extension? Is this something we should get our hopes up about?

I am curious as well, considering I've heard not a peep about it. Then again, I've been trapped in a swirling vortex of depression thinking we are stuck in the MAC forever

he signed it. Mizzou may go with the interim AD for awhile. They have to get a President and Chancellor, which given their problems, might be the priority I would think.

So you're saying that STF is no longer part of the Mizzou search for AD? correct.

He was just guessing when a guy asked him who he thought it would it be, because he felt it made the most sense. He never once said it was confirmed, rumored, or official. It's HILARIOUS to me that it ended up on this board though.

Correct. This makes the budget issue hard to believe for NIU's plan. But it's a convenient reason for fans to rationalize. So I guess we are to believe the conversation goes like this:

STF: We have $X million to start project X. Plans are ready to go. Let's announce it and break ground!!
NIU: No. Sorry. The state is a mess and it might look bad if we spend private dollars. Just sit on the money and wait.

Uh huh, right.

I was told he signed a new contract, but that does not mean the Mizzou deal is off the table. I'm just speculating that Mizzou may go with an Interim longer than usual as they have higher offices to fill. If I'm looking to be a schools AD, I sure would want a President in place and involved in my hire.

Okay. I would hope NIU would make an announcement soon, having your AD sign an extension is a big deal.

Yea, I don't think they have the $$ for master plan stadium upgrades. Has anyone looked at the economy in Illinois recently? It's horrible. Still pretty high unemployment & people are making less or salaries are stagnant.

Going to be awhile before St. Frazier gets this stadium upgrade done I think.

Maybe not ALL the money, but who's to say they don't have a nice, NICE chunk from private donors (which i imagine a corporate sponsor or two could be a part of). Like, enough to get a damn good start on the renovations...

Don't understand the doubters. Jiff got the IPF done and STF is a much better AD in my opinion...

They might have SOME $$ but not nearly enough. What they need for all they want to do(not just Huskie Stadium but overall) I think is going to take more than a couple years to amass.

It's privately funded for a specific purpose at a specific school. It's not like you can take private funds for this and put them towards another public school's bailout. If they need money so bad, I'd suggest they find private funding for their cause. U of I wouldn't give a rats ass if they needed something done. Why should NIU?

Right, the State Farm Center renovations have been privately-funded so once UI had the funding in place they went ahead and built. Whether or not there was a state budget in place was of no consequence.

Not a doubter at all...

It's just tough that we're less than 3 months from the 2 Year Anniversary of the Master Plan announcement ( 10/30/14) , and we've had nothing really tangible since then, whether it be an Update or a shovel in the dirt.
