UM, working on a contingency plan in case the stadium formerly known as Sun Life is not ready for the Sept. 3 opener against Florida A&M, prefers Marlins Park to FIU (20,000), because it can accommodate far more fans.
UM already has sold more than 6600 new season tickets, most ever at this point in the offseason and are moving toward 40,000 overall season tickets for the first time since leaving the Orange Bowl.

If Miami sells over 40,000 season tickets, isn't even Marlins Park too small at that point? You'd almost have to either reschedule the game or move it to Orlando, I would think.

Yes. They've already said the opener would be in Orlando if the Dolphins Stadium isn't ready in time. And potentially the next home game too. That is the only stadium big enough for UM. Plus that would probably draw a lot of area fans in central FL who couldn't go before, even tho it would be hard for season tix holders to drive 3.5-4 hrs to the game and back.
Update on ticket sales, we've already added more than 8,000 new season tickets this year. I think last year we had 34-35,000 so that already puts it at 42,000+ season tickets. They just announced this not long ago in a tweet in the Canes football account. Needless to say this is the most we have sold in a long time.

Dolphins moving their Aug. 25 preseason opener to Orlando.

Just an update. We have sold more than 9,000 new season tickets this year... another record increase.
