The PAC 12 would be smart to offer Houston.

They would be smarter to offer a direct merger with the Big XII. 04-cheers

But let WVU go to the ACC or SEC, and Baylor and/or TCU to the SEC if offered.

Why would the SEC want the leftovers?

To the victor go the spoils. The PAC, B1G, and SEC commissioners should be on the phone to ours! You snooze, you lose. 03-zzz

AAC would be there to scoop TCU/WVU at 13/14. But since that GoR is in there, the Big 12 won't be able to abandon them barring paying them more than the new Pac 20 deal could ever be worth per team, until they'd land in a better place like the SEC.

If they could, I'd kick out TCU and WVU and just go to the Pac 20. Bump the Arizona schools east.

LOL!

You do realize that inventing this rumor only makes you look desperate, right???

I'm so glad UC's administration has been Q-U-I-E-T over the past ten days or so.

Why would the PAC 12 add Houston? Money! The PAC 12 Network is not making the money it desires. It would make a great jump to add two schools in the Central Time Zone.

The problem is who to add with Houston. The PAC 12 Network needs programming that the East coast will watch before they go to bed. 10:00PM Eastern tip-offs or first pitches just doesn't increase viewership very well.

Texas Tech? SMU (remember money)?

I believe that DirecTv and cable companies would be more prone to add the PAC 12 Network if the Houston and Dallas TV markets wanted to watch.
Assuming the Pac 12 is indeed the beta conference in this realignment, it almost certainly has to be Houston and SMU - losing the Denver and Phoenix markets will be a big blow to the Pac 12. If Colorado departs then Colorado State will certainly be headed to the Pac 12. The American refills with North Texas and Rice. C-USA stays at 12 after considering New Mexico, New Mexico State, UT-Arlington, and Texas State.

The real wildcard is if UCLA leaves - I would think at that point San Diego State is in, but you may see Boise State instead of the Aztecs. BYU is probably still a non-starter to the Pac 12. The Mountain West stays at 10 members in football.

If the Pac somehow loses Colorado and both Arizona's, offer to CSU, Houston, and UNLV. This is a 1 in 500 chance though.

If the PAC loses the Arizona's then I would look for a group of 4-6 move to the B1G.

Huh? I doubt there is anything that would cause the original Pac 8 to break apart.

There isn't going to be Pac 12 expansion to the B12. All of that chatter will die within a couple of months anyways. Over the next couple of weeks schools will be doing their presentations and offers will go out. This will be done by Sept.

RE: Things Maybe Brewing out on the West Coast for UH
I don't think the Houston to the Pac-12 thing is that far-fetched, and certainly not by the standards of this message board. There's actually some logic to it and precedent as well.

Remember, Pitt had an informal offer from the Big 12 as well and wisely parlayed that into ACC membership, where it fits much better geographically, demographically, athletically, academically, etc.

Houston could do the same. However, unlike Pitt, the B12 is in Houston's natural territory so that is their best long term bet, IMO. Maybe they are attempting to leverage the P12 into a B12 bid? That's my guess.

Also, are we 100% sure that the other Big 12 programs aren't using the threat of expansion as a way of leveraging Texas into dropping the Longhorn Network? That too would make sense, IMO. Maybe they are not as interested in expansion as they are a conference-wide television network? That has to be considered too, right?

As for candidates, assuming that Texas insists on retaining its own television network, I think that means the Big 12 has to expand by four teams. They are going to need to add markets to make a conference television network viable.

I think that is also potentially bad news for Houston, despite its market size. I say that because I have to assume that a Big 12 Network, even without the University of Texas, would be carried on the first tier of most cable systems throughout the republic, right?

Honestly, that's the toughest call of the bunch and could easily go either way.

I see Cincinnati and BYU as no-brainers, assuming the B12 and BYU can work on some of the religious considerations as well as BYU-TV. That leaves one or two spots open for some combination of Memphis, Connecticut, Houston, Colorado State, UCF, USF, San Diego State, UNLV and Boise State.

Personally, I would probably go with the Florida twins - I think they each have a ridiculous amount of potential. However, if they add Houston, I could see the last spot going to a western school as a travel partner for BYU. I would strongly consider Boise State but UNLV looks like it is about to move into a $1.7 billion on campus domed palace and that too should not be casually dismissed.

Is Idaho still available as a Boise replacement for the MWC?

I would also agree that BSU is a better travel partner for BYU than CSU. I would add them both for football only or Memphis UConn for all sports. I think BYU BSU better offsets the travel costs even though it may not improve the TV deal substantially for payout per school.

Yes. They have agreed to join the Big Sky, but could reneg, as Boise St. did with the Big East/American. Also, they are still FBS, but even an FCS school could always reclassify up to FBS with a conference invite.
