Our young defense looked really good in the spring game. It held the offenses to a combined 309 yards of offense. The D-line did a good job of getting pressure and our LB's were all over the field. Special teams were very sloppy, but that is to be expected in a spring game. The one bright spot on offense was how good the running game look. Lydell Ross had 17 yards on 5 carries and a TD in his only 2 series of play for the Scarlet team. After that Freshman Tony Pittman took over and ran for 105 yards on 21 carries. As for the QB's, none of them looked great, but Zwick definately had the best day. Despite overthrowing some recievers on the deep ball, he was 16-26 for 165 yards. The attendance for the game was 45,000.

A lot of good articles and pictures can be found at the O-zone...

From what I have heard, my thoughts are to go with Zwick to start the season. Any other thoughts?

I'd say it is a little early to name a starter, I'd wait it out through the spring/summer to see if one of the QB's can distinguish themselves as the go to guy. If that doesn't happen I would play Zwick because Troy Smith can be used at other positions on offense.

It seemed that the coaches had already made up their minds before the spring game who the starter would be. I for one thought that Troy Smith was the more accurate QB. He was plagued by receivers who couldn't catch the ball. I don't know why Bam Childress even has hands. Schnittker seemed to have trouble holding onto the ball also. My guess though, I think that Tressel will go with Zwick even if for no other reason than the family history stuff.

I know that you guys didn't see it this way, but that is my best shot at this.

If there was any question about the starting quarterback situation, it's answered now. According to head coach Jim Tressel it'll be Justin Zwick who completed 16 of 26 passes for 165 yards as the Scarlet beat the Gray 13-0. Freshman Michael Pittman was the star on the ground rushing for 105 yards on 21 carries, but the real story was the play of the defense as the Scarlet D held the Gray to -33 rushing yards and came up with nine sacks. Sophomore DB Ashton Youboty was everywhere making four tackles, a tackle for loss, a forced fumble, a broken up pass, a fumble recover and a blocked punt.

LOL, that article is awful. What Tressel said was that if the Season started today that Zwick would get the start but Troy Smith would split time with him. The QB race is still wide open. Also the Freshman RB's name is Tony Pittman, not Micheal. And it is important to note that Grey's RB Rashaun Parker was hurt in the first quarter and they were forced to throw the entire game. The -33 yards rushing was from sacks.

Yeah, I was reading that and I was thinking to myself: isn't Michael Pittman an NFL RB for the Buccaneers?

Thanks for the info though Herd fan 4 life.
