As the season approaches
What game on your teams schedule are you looking forward to the most?
What do you believe will be the strength of your team throughout the season?
What is your teams "achilles heel"?
It's the day of the Conference USA Championship game, where is the game being played, who is involved and where is your team?

Louisville at home is the game I look forward to most OOC, MTSU in conference play.
Strength-Defense, I suspect that this group could be better than last years even and it will catch people off guard.
Achilles-Quarterback, virtually zero depth with experience after the 1.
Championship game is in Huntington, WV, vs. UTEP who surprises everyone in the West.

1. Vanderbilt/Missouri A shot to take down one or both SEC Teams Tops the MT regular season wish list for me.
2. Offense! Both passing and rushing attacks will be Wide Open!
3. Linebackers/Safeties. We lost a lot of solid veteran talent.
4. (If we beat Marshall) MT faces Southern Miss in Hattiesburg!

1. Vanderbilt and WKU. Vandy will be a lot of fun and we should win this time around. It is in Nashville, so that means we should have a huge crowd in blue (maybe more MT fans at West End than we did at home in the monsoon last year, horrendous weather). WKU is homecoming, 'nuff said.
2. Offense, no question. Pass and rush are both top tier in NCAA.
3. I will say DL and LB. I have no idea how we will look, hopefully not as bad as last year.
4. MT vs La Tech in Murfreesboro... Freezing cold weather, sold out stadium to see the Top 25 Raiders get the G5 auto bid

We have not been very successful against Marshall lately...Hopefully we can get them at home this year.

RE: As the season approaches
Hard to pick which game I'm looking forward to because each have their own reasons...
if the season plays out right it's Marshall because it could be for the east championship. And it's quickly turning into one the most heated rivalry in this conference .
Vandy just because it's the first time Western will host a sec school and depending on the first three games it should set a attendance record for Western. FAU...Halloween in S. Fla. If not for Western sports I would be living in S. Fla Oct-April
QB is the big unknown and weakest link right now. I personally think Western's chance at another CUSA championship is DECISION making at the QB spot. All have better arms than BD but decision making is what makes a QB.
First time in many years that going into a season I would say Western's defense is a difference maker. Also when you return all of your offensive line and backfield (other than BD) it's a huge plus
So even with a tough conference road schedule of playing the preseason #1 and #3 in the east on the road and #2 in the west... based on defense and probably the best O-line in the conference returning.
Western vs S. Miss for a repeat of last years championship game

Right now, I would say Rice, because if we can replace Doughty, go 1-0 in week one, and create some buzz for the Bama game in week two; we could be off on another great season. We loose any momentum gained from 2015 if we loose the opener on national TV

What game on your teams schedule are you looking forward to the most?
I look forward to all of them, but especially the home games against Southern Miss and Marshall. If I have to pick one, it will be Marshall, a must win at home if we are going to present any challenge in the East.
What do you believe will be the strength of your team throughout the season?
Though the offense struggled behind inconsistent quarterback play last year, I think the offense (with a healthy David Washington at quarterback) once again will be one of our strengths this year. But, somewhat ironically, and for the first time in our short football history, I think it will be the defense that carries the team in the close games and paves the way for our first winning season in FBS.
What is your teams "Achilles heel"?
Last year it clearly was our special teams play, especially our punting and punt returning where we averaged less than 36 yards per punt and just over two yards per punt return. Both areas should be improved this year. If we have an Achilles heel, I expect it to be our O-line. We will just have to wait and see if they get their act together.
It's the day of the Conference USA Championship game, where is the game being played, who is involved and where is your team?
Since UTEP is going to win the West, and the Monarchs will beat the Miners in the regular season, it looks like it will be UTEP and ODU in Norfolk.

ODU and MT. We let the ODU game slip away last year and look forward to getting a shot at them at home. MT was a brutal beat down last year, would love to surprise them at home.
What do you believe will be the strength of your team throughout the season?
Running game. It will be deeper with the addition of Washington and/or LeMay. I think there will be more holes with a passing threat this year.
What is your teams "achilles heel"?
Secondary and Special Teams.
It's the day of the Conference USA Championship game, where is the game being played, who is involved and where is your team?
Marshall at Southern Miss.

Would love for Charlotte to pick off MTSU, would give a cushion in the East standings

I agree from the Rice view. How does Bailiff do in Game 1? Was 2015 a mulligan, or will 2016 prove to be the last for Bailiff at Rice?
I think the Rice offense gets back on track in 2016, controlling game tempo and winning time of possession.
However, will the defense be able to mount a credible pass rush and prevent the big plays for opponent's touchdown?
Championship game will be in Hattiesburg as Southern Miss breezes through the West unchallenged. East champion could have 2 or more losses and be anyone except Charlotte, FIU or Old Dominion. Rice goes 5-7, fires Bailiff, and makes a big hire for the future.

No question for me...we have several games on the schedule that are really interesting games, but until we beat them, WKU Hilltoppers are my personal pick for team I most want to play and beat. This 'feud" gets under my skin. Please take that as a sign of respect Topper's fans. I agree that this is a rivalry in the making...I think it's already there.
What do you believe will be the strength of your team throughout the season?
I agree with those that think our defense will be good to great! This isn't going to be an easy season for us, in many respects, and I think the defense will keep us close enough to win some that we wouldn't otherwise win.
What is your teams "achilles heel"?
Our QB...I fear that Chase will suffer from an inflated ego and fall flat, and not sure who the "next guy" is. And even if he keeps the mental game in check, our achilles heel is that he suffers an injury keeping him off the field.
It's the day of the Conference USA Championship game, where is the game being played, who is involved and where is your team?
The game is in Hattiesburg. While I agree with those that say that UTEP may surprise, I don't see a West Title for them. Plus, this isn't Marshall's year...I see Southern Miss vs. Western Kentucky as a repeat of the CCG, but down south.

I hope I'm wrong, but I think we're already seeing it. I mean, why change your number from #14 to #1??? Why make public, outlandish comments about "The CUSA Championship runs through Huntington..." Just more bulletin board material.
I get it...He's young and very talented... I guess I'm just old school and really admired how Chad Pennington handled himself...
Maybe I'm misreading him.

Everyone's using the "rope-a-dope" on us, proclaiming us the undisputed champeen...
while most USM fans know we have many question marks, most pertaining to a green and untested coaching staff.

Looking forward to Marshall and La Tech at The Rock.
Strength of the team is the offensive backfield (barring injuries).
Achilles heel possibilities are OT and adjusting to new staff.
CUSA Champ Game will be green with North TX at Charlotte.
