It is unfortunate that the state of Illinois is bankrupt or on the verge of bankruptcy. If the state could get behind NIU and provide financial support a move like this would be more plausible. It would be soo cool to see that happen but I think the chances are close to zero.

I doubt U of I would support us moving to the Big 12. They've already seen the success we've had as a mid-major so only imagine how much more sway NIU would have in the P5.

It would perhaps set up a political battle but maybe not. A Big 12 school in DeKalb would not threaten the Illness status as the king of the heap.

Sadly, the conversation is a moot point with the current economic climate in Illinois. I hope that Illinois can get their act together. I am close to retirement and I love the Fox River Valley towns of Batavia, Geneva and St Charles. However, I will not move back to Illinois in their current economic state.

If you buy a toney estate in Batavia, Geneva, or St. Charles, it would greatly help the Illinois economy.
