The Big 12 wants teams that help them get into the playoff. 6-6 teams that get blown out in spare bowls dont help.

Youre gonna love playing @ Rice.

If we also lose UC then I could see reaching out to
1. BYU football only
2. Army for football only
3. Air Force for all sports
4. UMass or ODU

More likely one from #4

UTSA? Are you serious??? I sure hope we don't do that. Yuck03-weeping

I can deal w BYU, Army, AF, maybe even UMass if I have to. But the likes of UTSA and ODU are not even on the radar I hope.
ODU > UTSA

I could live with that and we would lock down the NY6 bowl every year with that lineup. The tv money would be decent too w those teams

Everyone has this suggestion... are you all even sure Army WANTS to join the AAC? They value their independence and plus if they join a conference with Navy it will seriously devalue the Army/Navy game held annually... soooooo yeah, there's that

The solution to that is have Army in the east, Navy in the west, and make the Army-Navy game non-conference (other words, no conference revenue, the two schools keep it, and play their eight conference games independent of this game).

A cool feature that could be added is in the event Army and Navy win their divisions, the Army-Navy game could double as the AAC championship game. I am sure there could be a contract stipulation worked out where if that happens there would be extra revenue to the conference to make it whole.

no offense to you but that's a terrible solution for the conference. what's the benefit to the conference if the conference isn't getting the benefit of the match up?

Why would Army and Navy give up that revenue they are already receiving? If Army did join I am sure something could be worked out that would benefit the schools and the conference.

navy is giving up its half of the army navy game, to the aac in 2018. so we are clear...no need to ask why when its already happening with navy

I wasn't aware of this but I'll take your word for it. Regardless, the idea of having the game as a non-conference game, with the possibility of doubling as the conference championship, is still a good solution provided the numbers work out well for all parties as they currently do.

In all seriousness, I think the issue that the AAC is about to have is the same one C-USA had when rebuilding membership after the first round of AAC poaching. Teams want to have some reasonableness in travel, for players and fans, and regionalism in teams. In rebuilding, UTEP and Rice were keen on UTSA, Rice and USM were high on La Tech, USM and UAB wanted MTSU, Marshall and ECU wanted ODU and Charlotte, and everyone east of Louisiana wanted a team in Florida for recruiting. Whatever may be left of the AAC will have similar issues.

Rice didn't draw for any teams. ECU was just an example. And by the way ECU put 40-50k in the stands for Rice, UAB, and the rest of the CUSA bottom feeders.

ECU never "wants" to be in a league w ODU and Charlotte again if we can avoid it.

The AAC will be just fine wo Rice and all their fans.

Why would ECU not wish to be in a conference with Charlotte and Old Dominion? The ACC is built on bus games. It would be awesome.

With that thought process we might as well go with Furman, Troy, insert team no one wants to watch us play. Charlotte and ODU are our 4th OCC game teams.

Old Dominion is building a fan base. Playing at ODU will have a larger crowd than playing at Tulane or our past conference games at UAB, FIU, and FAU.

We don't know what teams are leaving. ECU will have to choose her best options when presented. ODU may be important to Navy and ECU.

ODU....building a fan base? They had a solid chance to continue their success from FBS with Taylor Heinke but really dropped the ball by losing 48-0 to Appalachian State in Apps first year at the FBS level.

Other than ODU's location, what appeal do they have? Charlotte has room to expand their stadium to seat 50,000 if they ever are able to build up that following as a commuter school. App State has a master plan in place to get around 35,000 seats. Western Kentucky is probably the best all around choice for addition based on basketball, baseball and football.

You stay as a 10-team league in all other sports, you lose out Memphis also then you add UMass. The easiest thing for the American is to move Army vs. Navy from the end of the year game to the opening kickoff game on a Thursday for the College Football season. Just have Army & Navy continue to compete in the West Division.

Rice?? Why? Their football and basketball are horrible and they have no fans. NO

There are a lot of 05-ban going on in this thread. You can cherry pick one or two things from most schools but they are severely lacking in other departments.

ODU had a fan base before it had football. You could take Appy's basketball attendance multiply by 2 and add in ECU's attendance and still fall short of what ODU averaged. Fact is we opened the doors of football and 20k people came. The traditions and culture is building but the fans have been there. And get the hell out of here with that dropped the ball by losing to App ****. If one game meant **** your program would have folded the year before when you lost to Liberty.

I like WKU, they're a solid conference mate, far superior to ECU all around unless you're playing attendance ball. Other than being two hours away from a majority of our fan base ECU really isn't bringing us much.

My scenario to rebuild

Add Army FB Only
Add Wichita State for Olympic sports
Add VCU for Olympic sports

I'd be down with this. 12/12, strengthens basketball, brings Army-Navy game fully into TV deal.

That is a big money game that would help the AAC tremendously in leveraging with networks.
