This is one thing that disappoints me about Rice. For better or worse, we really have no political pull in Texas.

You would expect the state's most prestigious university to have a few more people on their side.

It's not ideal, nor is it favored. It's just necessary. Can't stay in CUSA, given the attrition, lack of historic rivals and terrible media deal. Like Ant said, give UH credit for having a goal, and setting a course of action that would help them reach their goal. We didn't do that, and, realistically, any talk of us being a candidate for the Big 12 was us speaking through our blue and grey colored hearts. The best of a bad situation would be to leave CUSA for the AAC or MWC.

One of the UT "$9.95" guys is reporting that UT sources are telling him that the UT higher-ups don't think OU and OSU will approve UH, so they are paying lip service to them.

Many believe that UT's ultimate goal is to open a UT-Houston near the old AstroWorld site.

Nothing is done yet. As I mentioned earlier, this is 100% UT wanting UH to stand down on its objection to UT-Houston campus. UH still doesn't have the votes for 2 team expansion. If it goes to 4 they're in like flint.

I, like presumably most (if not all) people posting here, really don't know what is going on behind the scenes. IMHO, however, the Big 12 looks at this as a survival issue. The admin at UT is no longer the same as the ones who purportedly held grudges toward UH. UH has made a lot of moves to signal that they are willing to do what it takes to get an invite. We've barely got our toe wet. If the Big 12 expands, I feel they will take whomever they feel brings the most to the table, not worrying about petty issues. I dont feel that UH to the Big 12 is " like going from the Earth to the Moon"
We needed Karlgaard ~ 5-10 years ago to push the issue, he hasn't had enough time to change the course of the institution
