Number of schools in the Power conferences in the first year of the BCS (1998): 62
Number of schools in the Power conferences in the first year of the CFP (2004): 64

The only changes between the two years were Temple moving down and L'ville, Utah and TCU moving up. 3 other schools- Cinci, UConn, USF, spent time in a power conference during the BCS era but are currently out.

At the end of the day realignment is just shuffling the deck chairs, no real progress is being made.

Well, it's about to gain by 4. Twice as much as has been let in (net) since 1998.

Its the Tampa Bay Times site. Its just an article that compares USF attendance to some other B12 candidates over the last 11 years. Of course, those numbers dont really tell us much as most of that time USF was playing in a BCS league against P5 opponents while the other candidates were in lesser non-power conferences playing other G5's. The reality is the last 3 years has proven any of the AAC teams would do just fine in a P5 conference. There is really no argument about that.

As did EVERYONE in the AAC for one year.

technically yes, you are correct. but everyone understood that it was a transition year and not a permanent status change for those teams. big difference. The real surprise will be if the BigXII selects a school that has never been a legitimate member of the good ol boys club at some point in the past.

Of course, this writer did not use actual attendance figures that his own paper posts after every game...as USF has for the last 10-12 years inflated attendance at EACH game by around 10,000-12,000 per game.

This USF site posts actual attendance average for every season and ALL USF Games thru 2013:
http://www.thedailystampede.com/2014/1/1...f-football

From writer's own newspaper, here are the figures for the last 2 years:

For 2014:
USF 2014 Attendance: Actual and Announced

Western Carolina: 21,946 (announced 31,651)
Maryland: 19,926 (28,915)
NC State: 17,198 (27,269)
UCONN: 11,599 (28,273)
ECU: 21,750 for Homecoming (31,567)
Houston: 15,435 (29,782)
UCF: 27,368 (36,963)
----------------------------------------------------
Announced: 30,694
Actual: 19,317

For 2015
2015 USF Actual & Announced Attendance

USF vs FAMU 21,928 (announced: 30,434)
USF vs Memphis 14,305 (announced: 22,546)
USF vs Syracuse 18,039 (announced: 27,325)
USF vs SMU 15,157 (announced 24,338)
USF vs Temple 18,470 (announced 28,393)
USF vs Cincinnati 18,889 (announced 26,522)

Attendance is a nice figure, but any P5 conference is confident their teams will increase attendance at any venue because they are better than previous competition. Anyone writing in a column or online that attendance will be a key factor is easily ignored...if attendance is a decision factor it is far down the list.

Actually it's 3, unless UCONN is one of the 4. Then it's 2.

Which one of UC, UM, UH and BYU was in the BCS in 1998? From the 1998 BCS membership, Temple was kicked out, and Utah, UL and TCU were added. Net 2.

The ones who were in AFTER 1998 and are out now I'm not counting (UConn, UC, USF). There is a net 2 more schools in the P5 right now than were in the BCS when it started in 1998.

Huh? The BCS has had a net gain of 2 schools since 1998. They are about to add 4 more. Not sure what part of that you think got shredded.

Three other schools jumped in AFTER 1998, and are out now, so we aren't counting those. We are talking NET.
