You can't turn down an offer that was never made.
Yes while not a final offer the big 12 did approach Air Force. Sorry Navy guy

Former athletic director Hans Mueh said five years ago that the Big 12 approached Air Force to gauge interest in joining the conference, and the Falcons turned them away.

"I told them we're not a good fit for that conference," Mueh said in 2011. "In the Big 12, geography makes sense, the economics make sense, but recruiting makes no sense for us. I can't recruit against Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State.

Did I ever tell you about the time that Taylor Swift told me "You Belong With Me". I turned her down. You can trust me. No need to ask her about the whole situation.

Don't forget that Troy Calhoun turned down an offer that also wasn't made to become the head coach at Tennessee. Air Force sure seems to like to talk about how much they turn down good opportunities.

Conference expansion is not about winning & losing, it is about improving TV contracts. Air Force brings almost nothing to the Big 12. Smaller fan base than CSU and doesn't even bring the Colorado TV market. If the B12 were to try to move in that direction, zero chance they would pick AF over CSU. This fact was no different in 2011 than it is now.

I do not have a dog in this fight, but sorry Navy guy, with all due respect your argument against Air Force has no legs to stand on. The other posters are quoting facts and you are discussing Taylor Swift fantasies.

You might want to consider what kind of wiggle room the term "approached" has. If you really think that the B12 opened serious discussions with the smallest FBS fan base in Colorado, then enjoy the kool aid.

-Bill Clinton never had sex with that woman, Ms. Lewenski, not a single time. Until he later admitted that he did.
-Anthony Weiner's twitter account was hacked & he never tweeted pics of his junk. Until he admitted that he did.
-Hillary never dealt with classified emails on her personal unclassified server. Until the FBI investigation proved that she did.

No need to introduce critical thinking about unsubstantiated claims from only one side.

Besides, if it's on the internet, it has to be true right? I'm sure the B12 was more interested in expanding with the smallest fan bases in a state as possible. They should probably consider Middle Tennessee over Memphis or Utah State over BYU too - at least given the "facts" of their previous expansion plans as has been pointed out in this thread.

So those were fake emails the schools released upon a FoIA request, then? Those ones that mentioned Pittsburgh, Arkansas, and Air Force all in the same breath?

Internet fiction all along, I guess. Thank you for setting it right!

It was not internet chatter. It was articles in the newspapers and on TV.

I do not know what Taylor Swift, Monica Lewinsky, Anthony Weiner and Hillary Clinton have to do with Air Force, but whatever.

Air Force has a nation wide fan base as do all service academies that turn on TV sets. Also,I disagree that Air Force has the smallest fan base in the State.

I understand the rivalry between Air Force and Navy, but Air Force has turned down the overtures from the Big12, so it is water under the bridge. So I do not understand why there is any concern that Air Force might upstage Navy by getting into a P5 conference..
