I don't think App will blow out ODU like last year, but I do think we will win comfortably, somewhere in the 17-20 range

I hope not, that was a embarrassing loss to a Sunbelt team, That was the only CUSA loss to a Sunbelt team in the last 2 years.

Against one of the better CUSA teams it would be totally different story, just ask the real Sunbelt Champs Arkansas State

It should be closer. Our defense will be improved and our offense, while not the bright spot of the team as of late, should make us at least a few scores better than that 49-0 thrashing last year.

last years final score was a fluke, everything that could go wrong for you guys did, App was clearly the better team, and was in control of the game, but obviously not to that kind of beating. I'll say this, it was the only ODU game I watched last year, and no offense but you OL was manhandled, about the second quarter started feeling bad for you qb and running backs, they we're just getting killed. I hope that was just a bad game for them, and they played better the rest of the year. Now, last years team against one of the better USA teams, remember we finished 33rd in the county, with a top 20 defense. Not saying we would beat Marshall, La Tech, but Im pretty confident it would be a very close game late into the 4th.

O-line was certainly a weak spot last year. We faired better after switching to a more mobile QB. But they struggled most of the year. Hopefully there's improvement or it will be a long year. We really have some great RBs but they had trouble getting anywhere

going into that game, the talk on App boards was how to stop your really good running backs, you could tell your starting rb was something special, he just got no time to find a running lane. There were several times where we almost tackled him as the ball was being handed to him.

Our OL was POC last year like a fat immobile blob that can't even stop girl scouts and of course you guys were the better team and man handled us and i don't know about our OL but if we have DW at the helm when we play you guys i don't see that kind of score parity this year. May be you guys will win at home but not by that much. Last year was fluke fest and we got nothing right.

12. @NC State - Our turn to be crabmeat that fights back 38-14

"9-12 are just better". I'd like to know your rationale for that other than it is App State and that's just the way it is. You are sandwhiched between Tennessee and Miami though so it's possible there could be a little bit of a letdown.

Arkansas State was the undefeated Sunbelt Champs, they went to NC and beat App State on their home field. App State has never won the Sunbelt. Arkansas State has been the dominant team in the Belt for the last five years, winning 4 out of the last 5 years.

Rationale - maybe because the Top CUSA teams have proven that they are better than the best undefeated team in the Sunbelt - see NO Bowl last December

If you watch that game in Boone then you may understand what many App fans consider a major contribution to that loss. While lack of depth isn't an excuse, losing your top offensive lineman and putting in a freshman rarely works out, and in App's case, it was disastrous in the second half.

You may use logic to say that A>B>C based on A v. C, B v.C, but in football, logic doesn't work that way. It is a game of match-ups and any given game day can provide a surprise result. Example: South Alabama beat San Diego State who beat Boise State last season. Was USA better than Boise St? Probably not.

The rationale is flawed at best and the fact that it won't be proven or disproved makes it all the more maddening. Arkansas State was better on that Thursday, much like App was better than Arkansas State and Louisiana the year before, yet lost to Liberty. Or Georgia Southern losing to Georgia by one score and losing to Georgia State (who lost to Charlotte) by 27 points.

Any given Saturday.

The only way to know is if App and Tech were paired up. Despite the lack of desire from Tech fans to play App in a bowl game (based on the comments about having to play in New Orleans last season), I suspect that it may have been better.

You either don't watch college football or were drunk posting this. Really hope this new qb pans our for you guys otherwise your in for a long season, especially after all the talking you guys have done.

You apparently didn't watch many games either. Charlotte absolutely handed ODU the game last year in Norfolk (and unforced fumble in the red zone late by our back-up RB) and the refs handed UTSA the game (several TERRIBLE Calls from the refs---ALL for UTSA to take it actually in OT) in Charlotte. The only difference between Charlotte and ODU last year was the Niners lost 2-3 super close games and ODU won 2-3 super close games. Those things tend to balance out.

I expect that at least part of ire drawn from the initial post is the fact that EMU has won more than two games once since 2009 and the Monarchs beat them in Ypsilanti last year.

A couple of these are interchangeable with 2-3 spots nearest them. Marshall is always a tough game for us, they certainly had our number last year. UTSA (Right about this) and UTEP(not so right about this) will be darkhorses for the West and the fact that they are away games do not help anything.

10/31/16 Update.
1. Savannah State-- We took care of them as expected
2. Rice-- Wasn't a solid win, but not a threat
3. Marshall-- see above
4. UTEP-- same as above two
5. Charlotte-- improving team, but doesn't scare
6. North Texas-- Surprise team of the year thus far.
7. UTSA-- Should not have lost, but did not even show up to the game.
8. Kentucky-- Surprisingly great comeback win
9. ODU-- Traveling to Norfolk will be tough
10. Troy-- Troy was a legit team this year, I was wrong.
11. LA Tech-- The Rivalry in Dixie scares me this year
12. LSU-- We did not even show up in this one during the second half

Though I'm pretty sure most anyone paying attention to ODU would have most of its five wins in the weaker half of the schedule and its three losses among the toughest, so it's not that much of an accomplishment actually. Oh God, I'm a garbage human being. 03-weeping

Rank easiest opponent to hardest.

I will go first and pretty cut and dry for WKU on easiest and hardest:

1. Houston Baptist-will rest starters in 2nd half-True
2. North Texas-UNT still has a lot of ? marks, plus game is at home-TBA, I will say obviously UNT has been a surprise team so far
3. Rice-Home game, first game of the season expect us to come of the gate strong at home-True-did not have any issues with RIce
4. Miami (OH)-road game but easy opponent we should not have any trouble with-False, even though we pretty controlled the game, the score was closer then it really was at the end, this was a very strange game in weird weather as well
5. ODU-Another home game in the Wood Selig Bowl-True-proved to be ranked about right
6. FIU-Home game against a team we usually have success against-TBA, we will see in a few days
7. La. Tech-Road game, revenge game from last beating against a team that on paper may not be a good as past seasons-False-completely underestimated La. Tech, has to be the system now, this makes QB #3 plugged in 3 seasons, at this point does not matter the QB, they continue to have playmakers
8. MTSU-We have had a lot of success down in the boro, should be a close game however this time around-True-dead on accurate, makes up for 2 seasons ago heartbreaking loss we had at their place
9. Marshall-We like playing at Marshall, and hopefully a lot riding on this game-True about whats at stake but certainly looks False for the opponent at this point, however expect Marshall to play us close
10. FAU-FAU owns WKU, took all we had to beat them at home last season-Whiffed on this one, FAU's coach should be fired by now just look down to the south to at FIU to see what can happen when you get rid of a lameduck coach
11. Vandy-Vanderbilt is a very underrated team, I think they will be solid this season, we will have a lot of pressure to beat them at home in front of hopefully a sold out stadium-True-Vandy is not bad, we should have certainly won this game
12 Alabama-Enough said, welcome to bama, ROLL TOPS! Hoping tool Colin Cowherd is right and Bama rest starters from the opening kickoff-True-but we played Bama closer then a lot of teams and did not rest their starters until mid way through the 4th Quarter
