Murphy has added 4 new players for 2016/17. Three sat out last season. One played JUCO ball. So all players have collegiate experience.

For 2017/18, Murphy has added 3 players who have each played two seasons of D-I ball. Each will be a transfer redshirt. One more player is a true frosh who is also expected to redshirt.

There is a pattern there: The newcomers have usually one or two seasons of ball plus a redshirt year.

So many of these guys are sold/panhandled by their 'handlers' to the highest bidder to feed their own ego. It's not until these players have to look in the mirror (and on the court) to see where they really fit in.

Buffalo has started recruiting like this ... Kent has been doing this for years ... it's not the way you or I would like it, but the reality is even at the highest levels true "four-year" players are few and far between.

The only drawback to the redshirt-plus2 is that final year a MAC-type program can lose that same player as a senior transfer ... again

Just adding Ty Groce 6'6, 185 a true frosh who received 12 Div I offers as a senior and graduated in June 2016. Signed with Northeastern but was released from scholarship.

Agree. Believe he will sitout. Thought I heard a possible reason.

I'm thinking he'll sit a year if for no other reason than EMU does not need him this year. The team is loaded at his position. The only question would be is it a redshirt or transfer year.

Besides, NIU has the best freshman in the MAC so what's the point?
