UT already cover the Houston market for TV purposes. California has 12 million more people than Texas and they wont add a 5th team. There is no need too, the fans already have a rooting interest in teams close by. If there were no other options around then yes, they would be attractive. But just like SD St they unfortunately have two big historic names close enough by to siphon off fans interest.

True, but I'll bet anything that Texas has more football fans than California. And I'll bet that Texas has easily twice as many fans rooting for local teams as California does (a lot of people in CA root for Northeastern or Midwestern teams).

Not when it comes to college teams. Pro-teams you get all the transplants representing but the locals all root for the local teams USC/UCLA in SoCal and Stanford/Cal in NoCal. They probably do have more football fans but most are Longhorn fans. There are probably just as many longhorn fans in Houston as Coug fans, and even more A&M fans. Houston could easily be third in popularity in their own city.

Well, the coaches were presented with the Navigate/BVH data in May. So they aren't wholly uninformed on the merits.

Well, McMurphy, who did the poll said that the coaches have no input into the selection. He just did it out of curiosity.

Many reporters and media says that Boise State's football alone could get them into the Big 12 because of their winning record since 2000. The Big 12 does need one more strong football school that makes them stay in the race for the playoffs. Houston have been hot and cold since 2000.

I don't think Houston can make it if they only add 2. The non-Texas schools won't vote for it. But if they add 4, then I think UH has a good shot.
