True, but it was unclear if the expeditions were in ships that were ice breakers. I doubt that they were. It's quite reasonable for the overall volume of ice to be decreasing, but unusually cold weather at this point in time my be causing more surface ice to form than the expedition expected.

I believe that man is affecting the climate through our activity. That doesn't mean that I want to see us go back to the stone age to fix the issue. IMHO, I think the world gov'ts don't think that climate change is as dire as they say it is, or we would see a whole hell of a lot more action being taken by the world - most notably an explosion in nuclear reactors as power plants.

I think Extreme Climate Change would have legs if the predictions of the supporters/scientists would have come true. Everything that they had predicted it would happen... Never did. From the poles being melted by 2015, to New York City being underwater.

Also given the fact that they had to keep changing the name from global warming, to global cooling and finally to extreme climate change bothered a lot of people.

The Polar Ocean Challenge team is not the first global warming expedition to be faced with icy troubles. In 2013, an Antarctic research vessel named Akademik Shokalskiy became trapped in the ice, the problem was so severe that they actually had to rescue the 52 crew members.

I agree with the both of you. While I believe we are having an impact on the climate, it's not as dire as our leaders profess it to be. Otherwise and to both of your points, the level of urgency would be much higher.
