I think there will be 1 more to bring all 5 Power Conferences to 16. Total # of top level collegiate athletics=80 long term. Mem, UC, UCONN, UCF, HOU, BYU (maybe, if the rapes, scheduling issues, etc get cleaned up), USF, CSU will all be in plus a handful of others.

Probably.
I think the next big thing to hit will be some kind of NCAA re-organization. That may separate many schools, and thin the field further.
But who knows really. If the Big XII can stabilize itself, then I could see the Big Ten reaching out to UConn, or the PAC maybe looking at a Houston. It's hard to get in the mind of these school administrators when they make these decisions.

It seems the big 12 will explore football only bids. I would guess these are the school's who it could work
Could work fine
BYU stay in WCC
UConn join Big East
AFA join WCC
Pretty unlikely
Hawaii stay in Big West
Navy stay in Patriot

The number 1 school out of the G5 that have not been taken yet is Boise State. They have the best winning record since 2000. Every other G5 schools had 6 or more loses in that time span.

Not forever, but if the B12 goes to 4 new teams then this is THE ticket out of G5. Good luck to those schools.
BYU - football only.
Cincinnati - offer probably already sent lol.
Memphis
Houston/UCONN/Colorado State and others.

Aside from academics and being close to Denver, What is everybody seeing in CSU? Tiny fanbase, their athletics haven't been very good in comparison to others and Colorado isn't much of a recruiting base.
FWIW, my wife went to CSU and I'd be thrilled if they got invited. I'm just not seeing it.

I would think Houston would be in play for the PAC12 . And UConn in play for the ACC or Big10 down the road regardless of what happens in the Big12

It could be the last train.
P5 split could happen after end of the next basketball contract.
Personally I would not want to go with them as its going to be a crazy arms race for everyone involved.

BYU, UConn and Cincy all have pretty strong hoops programs. It would seem silly not to include these schools for all sports if invited.
You can argue that UConn would be on an island, but they already are in the AAC. The AAC has two schools in Texas, one in Oklahoma, two in Florida, one in Louisiana, one in western Tennessee. The difference in travel burden would be negligible. And the travel burden is really on the school that is a geographic outlier, not the schools in the geographic core of the conference. For those schools, it's one trip per year for basketball and Olympic teams sports. Alternatively, UConn could place some or all of their Olympic team sports in the Big East, as they do already for Women's lacrosse and field hockey.
With respect to BYU, the problem is its policy of not playing on Sundays. This can probably be worked around in most cases, with the primary exception being conference championship events, which are frequently scheduled on weekends. Again, perhaps BYU could leave some or many of its Olympic sports in the WCC.

I could see it as BYU football only or all-in. Accommodating one school for no Sunday play isn't that big a deal in a 12 or 14 school league. Cincinnati is a lock period if they're expanding.
If they go to 14, I bet it's BYU, Colorado State, Cincy and either ECU or Memphis. That gets them into 4 new states and bridges that WVU island in a bit. Plus you get BYU without similarly putting them on an island ala WVU and get back into Colorado. That being said that's a spread out league for Olympic sports...
I just don't see Houston, simply because of how Texas-saturated the Big 12 already is or UConn because of geography. UConn is just much better suited to the Big Ten or the ACC and eventually someday will land in one of them.

This very well could be the last train for quite a while.

At most 6 more G5 will get a magic tix. 4 to B12, and 2 to Pac

That's likely 4 to Big 12, 2 leave Big 12 for PAC and then 2 more spots open up.
I don't see the last 2 though, simply because the Big 12 would be back at 12... Grabbing 4 now seems like a protective move for when OU and Texas leave.

Yeah, I'm aware. They've asked my wife for $$$. Still not seeing it. That's only a 30K stadium and their fanbase is relatively small.

I don't think so. There really is no motivation for a split. They already make all the rules, take all the money. Might as well let G5 pretend to matter just for the sake of getting P5 teams more wins and keep a few extra people interested in college football. I would say last train out for 5-7 years and then things change again.

I could see that changing. I think of they have a ton of potential in fact the most out of the all the prospects. Their state is growing fast, their school is growing fast, and their football is on the rise.
