Willie, Mickey and the Duke. Haha.

Bob Feller said the best ballplayer he ever saw was Babe Ruth. Feller didn't die that many years ago, I trust him.

Babe Ruth.
Willie Mays.
Hank Aaron.

It is impossible to compare players from different eras.

For example, according to baseballreference.com - Babe Ruth was 6-2, 215.

A "giant" in his day.

The Tigers have pitchers as big or bigger than that now.

Babe Ruth hit home runs further than guys do today. Ever see when they took his bat to the All Star game about fifteen years ago? Nobody could even THINK about swinging it, only guy that came close was Paul O Neil and he said "no way".

Like I said, Feller said ballplayer, not big, not strong, just the best ball player. Guy must have been something. He has pitching records that held up until a decade ago.

Lots of great players to choose from.

Personally I like as well rounded an athlete as possible. That isn't to say others aren't well rounded but with baseball like in basketball I put a premium on playing both sides, offense and defense.

My 5 yr old grandson wants to play baseball with me. That means he bats and I pitch. Fine. As long as he wants to play he decides. But I try to encourage fun with fielding and throwing so that he can enjoy it more. We set up his version of milk containers and we try to knock them over. Like bowling try to split bottles challenging himself.

Point: That is why I loved (and he killed my Cubs) Roberto Clemente. Could field and throw with the absolute best. And in an era where the mound was 5" higher with ERA's at 1.12 and Yaz winning the American league batting title with a .301 average Clemente's glove and arm literally won games. His hitting was Minnesota Fat's like. He could call the exact spot he'd spray a screaming line drive to the opposite field, then do it!. He was a notorious bad ball hitter. Pitchers throwing away from him would still get clobbered. Anything on the inside part of the plate was a Cuban cruise missile crisis for fans trying to snag his home run.
Mays? Simply mention the name Vic Wertz. Who? Google it. Nuff said. But then it wasn't really. Could steal bases like the Riddler and hit roof top shots like the Babe. Like Clemente literally took hits away from rightful batsman and throw a rope on a dime to the correct base. Every time!

Williams? I honestly don't know how well he fielded. But hitting .403 or whatever with 500+ homers he hit I figure I could stick him in left and tell #'s 24 and #21 to shade it to their right 10' and we'd be covered.
