Nah, from the last few P5 AD openings he's been on the short list already. He's pushing for it because it's best for the University and therefore himself. Have anything factual or positive to say by chance? Not that it matters, just a message board for any wild opinion I suppose.

Some rumors floating the B12 is expanding by 4...

BYU, Cinci, Memphis, and... UCONN

Interesting. Still would want to jump to the AAC. Basketball is an immediate upgrade and better bowl tie ins

From everything I've read I'd be really surprised if they went to 4 additional teams. Lots of money hungry schools and don't want to split the pot that much. Seemed like a lot of schools were set on adding an additional 2.

It's being spread about by A LOT of people... might have legs, might not. Might be partially true, maybe they are off a few teams. Regardless, I'd say those are the 4 candidates. Houston fans can yell politics but that won't make a difference... Illinois lawmakers have been whining they want another Illinois school in a power conference and look what good it's done us

RE: Big 12 Reportedly Expanding...potential AAC spot could come
I still think the AAC seems like a nice move if there is interest but probably need to see the Big 12 dominos fall first to be certain. An AAC with two less teams is much more appealing than if four leave and if four leave it will be interesting to see what happens. I would also consider Navy a wildcard as they might rethink their position in a vastly rebuilt AAC. If they bolt you could be looking at five defections from the AAC which would really turn the tide of that league with the bench options limited unless they somehow convince a pool of MWC teams to join.

There is absolutely nothing factual that would indicate that could/would happen. Their revenue, attendance, TV ratings, and results are better than any other G5 conference. Losing one or two teams will not change those facts.

He ignores facts, dont fall for the trap.

Assuming nothing crazy happens with swapping of P5s due to politics (i.e. like Arkansas & LSU leaving the SEC) and they take 4 it will be Cinci & Houston for sure and then lets say UCF & USF. I could see Memphis instead of USF or Houston as well. CSU and BYU will eventually be part of the PAC 12.

Lets say we get the AAC invite. Would you still want to be part of this conference long term? The AAC will never move beyond competing for the top G5 spot with the MWC.

West
NIU, Navy, SMU, Tulane, Tulsa, Memphis (or WKU once Memphis bails)

East
ECU, Temple, Marshall, Toledo, Army, UMass

Note: I didn't include UConn because the likeliest scenario is 16 team expansion and in that case they are a lock with ND to the ACC.

I want to take the next step as much as anyone, but the AAC feels long term like it will be watered down similar to what happened to C-USA aka SBC 2.0.
That is leagues better than the crap we have now with EMU and Kent St and such...

Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk

Exactly! The Sunbelt is the conference that would be a step down, and that is only based on on field performance. I'm pretty certain they have better attendance. You could argue CUSA is lateral, but I think most metrics would prove CUSA to be slightly better.
CUSA sucks now... that per team payout makes EMU and the sunbelt teams laugh

Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
Don't get me wrong, no matter who defects logic says we go for the AAC! No one climbs the ladder without taking some risks and applying for a bigger job. This idea of sitting on our hands in the MAC because it's comfortable and they've been good to us is not how business works, and we know college ball has become a business.

Just some questions to ponder

"Since CUSA sucks now"

At one time wasn't CUSA essentially what the AAC currently is?

At one time didn't CUSA have a better TV contract?

At one time didn't CUSA have better bowls?

Is playing Temple in the AAC any sexier than playing Temple in the MAC?

How many really care if we play East Carolina instead of Eastern Michigan? Will it bring in tens of thousands of more fans?

Just my opinion, and let me be clear that I am for conference improvement and don't mind taking some risks, but you better have a damn good idea of what the AAC or other conferences looks like in 5 years before you make a move so that you don't end up in a conference that sucks and has higher travel costs .

Now if the AAC or some other conference go beyond just replacement of the (best) teams that jumped to their better conference and really grab the best teams from other conferences to form a new more prestigious conference, this might be a great opportunity.

I don't think SF is looking to bail. Does he have an interest in a Big Ten job, I think yes just like everyone one on this board would have if in the athletic business.

EMU can't compete. Kent St just spent $500,000 for I believe womens lacrosse. Great sport but don't you think they need to invest in football. I can see a couple of MAC ejections and maybe add a couple of teams from the aac. I'd like to see the MAC be the taker and not the take.

Will never happen. The teams you mentioned are the core of the MAC and will leverage their numbers to stay in the conference. The MAC's biggest strength has always been its stability. Those teams will stick together to protect against teams like Buffalo, NIU, or Toledo leaving in order to preserve their conference long term.

I don't disagree with you, but if NIU and Toledo leave the MAC would be worse than a few FCS leagues.

In football for sure but across other sports maybe not much difference. I think there are enough schools with history together and a common agenda that you won't see anyone "ejected" anytime soon. If one or two teams do leave then I could see a school like James Madison getting the call to backfill.

Interesting facilities video released by the athletic department this morning. (which is very nice, by the way) Timing is purely coincidental, I'm sure.
