Exclamation Early discussions about a potential rule change
Eliminating kickoffs. This is a proposal in the early discussion stage, but it's being considered for safety reasons. Apparently kickoffs have already been taken out of Pop Warner football. Here's a link to the story on cbssports.com

Taking more of the foot out of football. As a former kicker (and also DT - yes, I kicked at 295) I think it's dumb as hell.

Whoa! This rule would eliminate onside kicks? It could fundamentally trickle down and change everything.

Shouldn't that be a picture of a laughing duck?

Most exciting play in FB. If executed properly, it is a thing of beauty.

Concussions and head injuries are going to destroy the game of football. If changing the kickoff to a punt saves foo9tball, I'll live with it.

Once they get rid of what they consider the #1 most dangerous play, how long before they need to get rid of what they consider #2, then #3?

Go back to leather helmets and get rid of the shoulder pads and you will see big hits eliminated almost immediately.

Just reading an article about bare handed boxing where few people suffer severe injuries because the lack of hand protection keeps the big punches confined to the torso. Rugby is another example of a collision sport without the degree of injury problems faced by football.

Rugby's a tough sport, no doubt, but the rules there control a lot of the issues in football. There's no blocking. Players actually have to tackle the ball carrier - that is grab and wrap arms around them - you can't just launch at a player to hit them. No contact above the shoulders, even if it starts below them. Etc.

I enjoy Saturday evenings at the Glass Bowl as much as anyone but...I'm afraid football's best days are already behind it.
