ACC Network

ACC extends GOR through 2036.

This could force the B12 to do something. Thought you all might want to know.

Good luck.

Yeah, if anything it SLAMS the door on dream of poaching ACC schools. The only P5 who *might* consider a jump would be AZ schools, and I don't see that happening...

Why the hell would any Pac-12 member leave?

Ain't happening. Just as much as any SEC member will leave.

RE: ACC Network
this just leaves the Big 12 as a conference whose time is just about up. I expect to see their teams getting picked up by the other 4 conferences and the Big 12 ultimately dissolving.

I agree; no way either Arizona school would seriously consider the Big 12. All they'd need to do is speak with the folks at Colorado who had been there to quickly learn what a dysfunctional family Texas has created. No self-respecting P5 program would leave to be under the thumb of Texas 24/7.

RE: ACC Network
Remember, over the last 3 years, ACC and ESPN already had a "deal" for a real ACC TV Network and if ESPN didn't start one up by June 2016, ESPN would have to pay the ACC Millions of $$$.

Well, now the ACC is telling the world ESPN will start up a ACC TV Network by 2019...but look for the fine print...as odds are it will be MUCH cheaper for ESPN to pay another "penalty" to the ACC, in exchange for keeping the TV contract thru 2036.

#smallprintmatters

PS. Think about it...ESPN thought it was cheaper to pay a penalty to the ACC back when they had MILLIONS of more subscribers vs trying to start up a new conf TV network to a dwindling subscriber base.

With ESPN now losing approx 450,000 paying subscribers per month...do you really think ESPN will start up a linear (i.e. channel on DirecTV/Cable) ACC TV Network by 2019, when they have millions less subscribers?

Odds are ESPN will just pay the next "penalty" for not starting it up...which will be cheaper in the end...especially with the extension of the ACC/ESPN deal thru 2036.

ACC Commish Swofford is just trying to create headlines now...just like he did a few years ago when he basically was promised an ACC TV Network by ESPN...which never happened.

GOR through 2036 says otherwise. News this morning is that the digital arm will launch this year and that 2019 is targeted because that's the date that Disney will have an ongiong batch of negotiations with providers settled.

Also the Charlotte facility will house ACC/SEC networks and that the leagues will have a cross-conference partnership to provide quality content for both networks.

This makes the most sense when you take all of your emotion out of it. They're using the conferences and their networks as tent poles supporting one another.

The ACC and SEC are natural rivals and the overhead it takes to produce the two networks can be reduced substantially by geography and consolidation.

It's moving toward a "pro conference" model like having the AFC and the NFC.

...and both of our schools would trip over themselves trying to join that dysfunctional family.
