Just bought tix for the Formula 1 race at COTA in October. I've been told there's a great BBQ place to try in Lockhart.

Got anymore must eat or must see things to do? We'll probably be at the track most of the time throughout the weekend, but we should have some time Monday before flying out.

Some consider Lockhart "The BBQ Capital of Texas." There are several delicious choices to be found:

Black's BBQ
Kreuz Market
Smitty's Market

just to name a few. Enjoy!

You can also find a Black's in San Marcos, as well as "Hays County BBQ" which is one of my personal favorites.

Lockhart and Luling are considered ground zero for Texas BBQ. Besides those already mentioned, City Market is a favorite of mine. Nothing like going into the "BBQ sanctuary" to place your order and watch as they cut and prepare the meat for you.

Franklins. I refuse to wait in line for 2-3 or more hours to get BBQ. But, it's the best from what everyone tells me.

Passing through Spicewood, Tx on Hwy 71? Stop at Opies. Great place, and when they run out of something, that's it!

Opies is pretty good. I have property across the road overlooking spicewood and lake travis and trek down to opies often. If you have gotten that far, head to marble falls. there are several brew pubs there that serve some good bbq and brew. Kreuz Market is hard to beat tho

another thing to do in that area is to see the Czech churches that were built in the late 1800's. they look like plain old wooden country churches on the outside but on the inside they are ornately finished out by the craftsmen and czech artisans that settled that area. finish up in schulenburg for, of course some good bbq.

Are you referring to the painted churches? I'm Czech and Catholic so whenever my family traveled to the coast growing up we'd always go out of out way to go see some of these churches. That said, are these churches seem kind of far to be in what Id consider the area around Seguin.

I've still never had Franklin BBQ. Not sure I have the discipline to get up early enough before they run out and/or the patience to wait in line for hours to eat. Maybe one day.

Kruetz's, Blacks, and Smitty's in Lockhart are all top-notch.
City Market in Luling is great.
I still say Hays County best in San Marcos with Kent Black's a close 2nd. Haven't tried San Marcos BBQ yet (where Hays County used to be).

yes the painted churches. they are closer to austin but if you are going as far as lockhart, schulenburg and shiner are not too much more.

If you're in Seguin maybe Texas Lutheran has a home game that weekend! Take in some D3 football...
