Totally agree. +1

I agree also. As for WMU I will believe it when I see them beat us. So far I have not seen Flecks great recruiting translate to quality on the field as one would expect with that talent!

I am new to the forum but a ST holder & long time fan. Surprised at the pessimism from the loyals. No Power 5 opponents. An FCS team at home. Wyoming was terrible. SDSU lost its QB & #2 RB and is @ home. USF was 8-5. Ball State? Why not 6-0?

Oh you poor sweet soul. Welcome to the board, where Carey is a complete failure, WMU is the crown jewel of America, and NIU is a .500 team at best year after year.

No P5's but three opponents that are better than about 80% of P5s this year in WMU, SDSU, and USF.

Stop including WMU in your SOS factors. They **** the bed every single year and will be consider bedshitters until proven otherwise

Also I'm not sure you're even an NIU fan honestly... all you do is ride the jockstraps of Toledo and WMU and sometimes CMU and tell us all how NIU will fail. Plus you're against leaving this conference to go to the AAC, i think the pieces are starting to fall into place here...

Also ignore Maddawgz. We're not even sure he's a real NIU fan. All he does is dump on us while propping up the rest of the MAC and most everyone is getting real sick of his act.

Wyoming is going to be played at 7200' Elevation. Your DB' & LB's are going to be gassed in the 1st Qtr. That said, Wyo is a very well coached team, what they lack is consistent talent, maturity and simply overall talent. They are very young yet do not underestimate that program (Nebraska is their 2nd game, on the road and they will give NU all they can handle because of the style of FB they play). Do not underestimate the Cowboys....

That said we (SDSU) play CAL the week prior to NIU. If we win (it will be a very tight game) you may catch us down, if we lose our HC Rocky Long will have the team ready to eat rebar. That's just the type of HC we have in Rocky.

As a college FB fan its great to watch the progress of your program! Be excited, we are just a month and 1/2 away from kickoff!

It is impressive how Rocky has assembled his outstanding coaching staff with former Head Coaches Horton and Hauck.
The wild card in the SDSU game is impact of the 2016 NIU coaching shuffle following the BSU Bowl Game debacle.
My view is the SDSU game could be the litmus test of Rod Carey's future as NIU coach.
I voted NIU as 6-0 as in Rod I trust!

This is a place for the vocal minority. Part of that vocal minority hates Rod Carey (31-12, loses bowl games to teams that are better than NIU), is intensely loyal to the MIGHTY MAC, and thinks NIU should join the Big XII because they're good at football. Welcome aboard!

Quote:Looking at this schedule, man oh man is it brutally front-loaded. It wouldn't shock me if NIU went into the CMU game with a single win. I figure SDSU, USF, and WMU are losses. BSU a likely loss, but winnable. I figure NIU will split Wyoming and WIU. I will go with 2 wins. Of course may be hard to project at this point, if Hare doesn't play, NIU could be 0-6 headed into the CMU game.

Split Wyoming and a D1AA squad? Really? Geez -- is NIU supposed to go downhill this year? After all the injuries of last year -- I say of course not. I think they lost their luster of the Harnish/Lynch days, but would I expect Toledo to likely split Wyoming (2-10) and Western Illinois (7-6; tough sched but D1AA; lost 44-0 to Illinois)? Of course not. I'd expect at least HALF the MAC to go 2-0 there without worry. And I don't understand BSU being a *likely* loss. A POSSIBLE loss? Yeah, maybe some potential there.

Quote:WMU is still just hype, we'll win unless they give me a reason to think otherwise

I would have said that about the potential loss to BSU. WMU isn't just hype. WMU has arguably the #1 receiver in the nation, the #2 QB in the MAC (right behind #1), two back-to-back MAC Freshmen of the Year award winners in RB, and a wide array of young talent on both sides of the ball as WMU has been ranked #1 in MAC recruiting. It's WMU's D though, that will be a hair over medicore At Best (and surely be several hairs under at least early in season), that will very possibly keep them from winning the MAC. But they certainly aren't merely hype, that's for sure. They finished last year beating #25 Toledo & winning their bowl against CUSA opponent.

With WMU spear-headed by coach PJ, with the strength of a thousand field mice, and former NIU stah, I say NIU is due to lose @WMU by default, with WMU geared to be better than the last two winning years (and frustrated by losses to NIU the past two). I would only say that Wouldn't be the default expectation if it were still the Harnish/Lynch days, of course.

MY NIU-OFF-THE-CUFF-%-CHANCE-OF-WINNING 1st 6 [w/ 2015 record & notes]:

@Wyoming: 90% [2-10: Lost to 7-4 D1AA N. Dakota; Blown Out by EMU at home; but can only be better this year]

@USF: 35% [8-5; Thumped Temple, CRUSHED Cincinnati, Beat Syracuse; but Thumped by @Maryland, lost their bowl to W. Ky; Supposed to be Better this Year]

SDSU: 30% [11-3; Undefeated in Mountain West, but lost handily to @Cal & @PennState -- and South Alabama out of Sun Belt (ouch)]

WIU: 95% [7-6; Extremely Tough D1AA schedule, but lost to Illinois 44-0 so that says a lot]

@BSU: 75% [3-9; A little more Fiesty than record indicates but still, it's BSU]

@WMU: 45% [8-5; Beat CMU, CRUSHED @Ohio, and beat #25 @Toledo + MidTenn in Bowl to end season; CRUSHED by @GA-Southern, Thumped by BGSU at home, and again managed to lose against @NIU with NIU being overly injury ridden]

You're not unreasonable, but last year is over. None of that matters now.

I will take the WMU side in this one. The logic makes no sense. Some NIU fans are saying WMU is hype because they haven't beaten NIU since 2008, even though WMU is the front runner this year for the MAC. Yet when NIU is the front runner, the fact that CMU has beaten them the last 2 years means nothing? You can't take both sides here.

To say WMU is hype is ridiculous honestly. They have a senior QB, one of the best WR in the nation, 2 RB's who could win POY, and a lot of experience. Their defense is questionable but they will be able to outscore many teams this year.
