Ted Alexander will be filling in the spot that was previously held by now retired Debbie White. He will have most of the responsibilities she had, but Marketing duties will be handed off to our very own Jason Chandler, with the ODU Compliance Office taking other duties. Ted will still do broadcasts for ODU football and basketball games

Wonder what the reasoning is behind that? I thought call-in coaches' shows were pretty SOP for most programs.

In all seriousness, congrats to Ted. He has given himself to ODU Athletics over the years and I believe he deserves this. I guess this means all the poking fun of his announcing will have to cease!

They should look to get Dave T or Andy M to do the basketball shows.

Congrats to Ted. Obviously we all want him to be extremely successful. I hate the idea of ending the basketball call in shows. I didnt listen to Karen, but I listened to JJ every week. I was wondering if something was up last season though, when they would go a whole show sometimes without taking a call. Not sure if people weren't calling, or they just stopped taking them, but it was weird. They didnt throw out the number to call very frequently. Hope they'll do something like a breakfast with bobby type thing with JJ, where fans can write in questions, or maybe message board live chats or something.

My understanding is the coaches shows were cut due to money reasons, during the resigning period with Max media.

PLEASE SAY IT AINT TRUE!! His personality is much better suited for an Oprah or Ellen type talk show, not men's sports. He is play by play, trying to be a comedian. It doesn't work. Switch seats with Meshaw (sp) if you want to do a comedy routine and let Meshaw call the play by play.

Sounds more like a cost control measure. Basically spreading her duties out and not really replacing her.

Yes, it was supplemental to their normal salaries.

Blaine got paid $30k for the radio shows and $30k for what I'm assuming were hits during WAVY's 11 o'clock news (or any of the local channels). Jones gets $60k a year for radio shows. Barefoot gets $15k.

I was really hoping the promotion would mean Doug Ripley would move into the basketball and Football positions.

Baby steps my friends, baby steps. Matter of time, Ted will, sooner than later, get so overwhelmed with tasks the only viable thing to do will be to hand over those reigns to Doug.

Opinions are like noses. If you don't like him why would you continue to allow yourself to be tortured by a comedian you said doesn't work for you. I have always liked Ted and enjoy his personality in person and on his radio broadcast.

I am very happy for Ted and his promotion as the Senior Associate Athletic Director - External Relations and look forward to his continuation as Old Dominion's Football and Basketball on air broadcaster. Put the dress in the bag!

Even better idea. Ripley is far better at doing play by play without injecting to much silliness into the commentary

I believe "inside Monarch Nation" also got canned in the new Max deal.
