Josh Walfish @Josh_DNRSports

JMU's full non-conference schedule is complete, but summer vacations have prevented it from being finalized and approved for release.

I think he was referring to WBB after the Tennessee game was announced but hopefully Men are not far behind.

I do not but I believe this to be the case.

RE: Future MBB Schedule
At this point of the year, I would assume that both are done, and if not, they should be in the next couple weeks. Summer classes are ending and teams are starting to put their practice and travel schedules together. Looking forward to this fall. With football, volleyball, field hockey, the growth of the soccer teams we have plenty to keep us busy until basketball, which brings its own excitement and anxieties.

2 questions
Isn't Charleston hosting the Charleston Classic tournament?
Is Delaware really hosting Notre Dame or is that a neutral site nearby?

CofC is not playing in that tourney. They can only play every four years, and they played last year. They are playing it in 2020.

Notre Dame is heading to Newark. No neutral site.

Weird, wild stuff. CoC is hosting a tournament that they aren't playing in.
That is a really nice game for Delaware to host Notre Dame in their bandbox

Brey is helping out his former assistant and the school he used to coach for with a game in Newark. Having walked those sidelines as a young coach he knows how big a deal it is to have Notre Dame visit.

RE: Future MBB Schedule
Added Northeastern and William & Mary both playing at Ohio State.

Northeastern at Ohio State is technically part of the PK80 Invitational - but it is not a part of the main bracketed tournament.

Ohio State is paying $95,000 to each of their non-conference home opponents, except William & Mary ($90,000)

RE: Future MBB Schedule
ODU released their full schedule. They open with a heavy dose of the CAA again this year:
Towson (home opener)
at JMU
Charleston Classic (Hofstra also in Charleston Classic)
at W&M

They also play early in the season:
at VCU
Richmond

(06-29-2017 11:31 AM)NJDuke97 Wrote:  There is an article about how App State is trying to/about to get into the Puerto Rico shootout because Florida State had to withdraw. This is an ESPN sponsored early season tournament. The article mentions App State leveraging their brand to get in the tournament. I just sent Jeff Bourne an email. JMU has as strong a brand overall and on ESPN as App State does and this would be a huge win for the MBB rebirth. Aside from being televised the tournament includes Iowa State, South Carolina, Boise State, UTEP, Tulsa, and others. This is a fair criticism of Bourne that he missed out on this type of opportunity.

I suggest we hammer Bourne on this so that when the next opportunity comes along to be bigger picture he considers taking it. Coaches typically work on schedules but ADs can be creative and get involved. A CAA example is the creativity of Northeastern leveraging Hockey to get a home game against Michigan State in MBB (a game that they won).

I am usually pretty fair when it comes to Bourne but this is IMO an example of where he deserves criticism. No excuse for this- just like when he was on ESPN being interviewed during half time of a football game and he didn't even mention aspirations to be FBS. Another missed opportunity to brand the school and our athletics program to where we want to be in the future.

@JonRothstein
Appalachian State will replace Florida State in the 2017 Puerto Rico Shootout, per multiple sources.

RE: Future MBB Schedule
Some buzz on Twitter from the DNR beat writer that the JMU MBB Schedule is done pending signed contracts and that fans will be ecstatic - VCU, Va Tech, G Town or Maryland to go with the already announced OOC games- pure speculation on my part but in order for fans to be ecstatic I think there would have to be another major OOC opponent.

CoC can't play in the tournament they are hosting in their campus arena, but they can play in the Great Alaska Shootout tournament?

NCAA over-regulation at its finest

Charleston played in the Charleston Classic a season ago and before that in 2012 and 2008.
