Family Fun Night
I noticed they moved Family Fun Night up to Friday, July 22nd at night this year. A couple thoughts:

1. I don't believe there will be an actual practice, as I don't believe practice starts this early.

2. I believe this was moved to a Friday night from a Saturday night for some reason. It's not as easy to get out there on Fridays as is it on Saturdays so not sure why they did that.

3. Seems like this was always held in August, not sure why the July date?

Maybe so it can be on ESPN. 05-stirthepot

That's not happening.

I think this is a much simpler, less exciting reason than you guys think...

RE: Family Fun Night
Unfortunately this was a huge bust as barely anybody showed up. They even took down the concessions early. The players were great and enthusiastic as they were sitting at tables by position and he got almost everyoneseems autograph. Again they had nothing to eat considering we drove out there without dinner. Lastly I hope the sound system gets fixed as you could absolutely not hear the movie, we probably should have left. My guess is this is the last time they do this. Too bad as it had the potential to be a really nice event. My guess is there were about 25 people there while we were there.

One scoop I got i spoke with Chad Beebe. His leg is in a brace. He will return for a 5th season. Real positive kid.

That is great news about Chad! I am absolutely delighted we will have him back next year!

This seems like poor planning by the Huskies Administrators. It's peak vacation season and Friday evenings are difficult for working people who do not live in DeKalb. They almost made this same mistake with the Spring game. Whoever plans these things has a serious disconnect with the lives of the average American citizen. The majority of their alumni and fans are in the city and suburbs and work for a living, so Friday evening is not an option without taking PTO. Most people cannot justify using valuable time off for something like this. In my opinion, whoever is deciding to schedule these events on Fridays needs to be replaced with someone who has a little more common sense.

Also whoever is in charge of marketing, some seriously messed up timings and missed opportunities with most events

RE: Family Fun Night
It was tough. The earliest we could get out there was 6pm. That was without eating dinner. That is why I was hoping they had hot dogs or something. They have in the past. This time there was nothing. We made it just in time for autographs. They shut everything down early and started the movie which you couldn't hear early. My wife missed the first 45 minutes of the movie as she ran to Sharks so we could eat something. Btw... the food was ok there but she waited a half hour for a beef sandwich.

I just couldn't believe there was no one there. You would at least figure kids from Dekalb would show up. It was embarrassing. You could tell the players were disappointed.

They need to tell people about something well before it happens, not the day before. And it needs to be on a Saturday. I realize that most Huskie fans are wealthy and can take off as many days from work as they want, but some of us are unfortunate in that we have to work - and don't get a month or more of days off.

NIU loves to schedule events during the week. Maybe they think ESPN will televise them. One of my complaints for years is all the stuff scheduled during the week, as if they are trying to cater exclusively to the locals (most of whom couldn't care less). I think the real reason is that they want Saturdays off themselves.

If that's actually the case, that is downright embarrassing and despicable of them... but i agree, the timing of far too events and the promotion of them is laughable.

Agreed, if they are putting laziness ahead of responsibility they need to be let go Monday morning. 99℅ of people have to do things they would rather not to fulfill their responsibility to their employers.

Not sure if I'm understanding the comment about laziness but if it's directed at athletics, then you are just plain wrong. And, your suggestion that events are scheduled on days other then weekends just to be able to have weekends off is not very well thought out.
Most of the people in athletics are working most every weekend once the season(s) begin. The fact that they try and do something during the summer is commendable.
And, exactly what was the heat factor that day? Weren't people being told to stay out of the heat?
And lastly to whoever it was that said they found out about it a day or so ago. The website has the information posted dated July 13th. Seems to be more than enough time to me.

So, you afe the person who didn't want to work a Saturday? I wouldn't admit that.

Huh? Sorry, wrong again. I don't work for athletics. Cannot even begin to figure how you might have arrived at that conclusion.

The reason people did not attend was the heat! Blaming athletics is one of the dumbest things posted recently.

Since you are on the inside or know how things work, why are most events to which donors and fans are invited mid-week? Over the years, there have been many events I wanted to attend but could not because they were during the week.

With the huge majority of fans not living in DeKalb, wouldn't it make sense to have as many events as possible on a Saturday when it doesn't conflict with other events? Before it was moved to Saturday, the Spring game was scheduled for Friday. Who in their right mind would do something like this?
