Wink Odds to win the AAA
American Athletic championship

School Odds

Houston 1/1
South Florida 7/2
Cincinnati 11/2
Temple 15/2
Memphis 11/1
Navy 11/1
UConn 20/1
East Carolina 33/1
Tulsa 33/1
SMU 75/1
Central Florida 100/1
Tulane 200/1
Who do you like with the odds. I find it hard to believe that Houston has a 50 percent chance of winning the league. As far as longshots, I like UCF. Veteran qb and lots of talent. I think a 10 dollar bet to win a grand is a good return. I like where we are positioned. They like us better than Temple which surprises me.

Very interesting. I think our fans are tougher on the team this year than any other i can remember. It definitely has to do with declining wins and the blown expectations of last year.

I think UC will be better, probably 8 or 9 wins depending on the bowl game.

I think USF wins this league though. Its nice to have them and houston both at home. Maybe we can get a leg up on them and avoid the huge letdown. We'll see. I'm very much looking forward to this year. So many unknowns and no expectations make for some exciting games!

I'm really excited about the three new coaches. Taylor, Grimes, and the DB coach from the Colts. I'm hoping they bring discipline and attention to detail to the team. Even though Taylor doesn't have the OC experience Gran did, I like what I'm hearing about his offense on this board.

The defense is a big question mark for me. I expect the secondary to better, but I'm a little concerned about the DC position being shared between Prunty and Koonz (sp?).

RE: Odds to win the AAA
Others have observed and I'm inclined to agree: Gran's offense rolled up the yards but took a real toll in QB health and a defense that spent way too much time on the field. I'd like to believe a more balanced offense yields longer possession time and a defense that still has some gas in the tank in the 4th quarter of big games.

Is that asking too much for 2016? If not, a conference championship is not beyond the realm of possibility.

No defense spent more time on the field than Kelly's undefeated season.

Our offense score quickly and often.

I'll take points and wins over balanced offense anytime.

I think we down play our chances this year after coming off a disappointing 7-6 last year.

But we are picked 2nd in our division and third overall in the league. Houston I agree is the overwhelming favorite. But if things finally bounce our way and injuries stay in check there no reason we cant win the league. I'm excited to see what Zac Taylor has up his sleeve for the offense. The tone of the season will be set early to see what this club does weeks 2 & 3 with Purdue and Houston.

I guess you could use a fight analogy. Gran was really big on throwing haymakers and hoping they would land. When they did land the outcome was really good, but there was a lot of risk. I'd prefer to work the jab and wait for the opposing defense to get sloppy to throw a hook or uppercut.

When I play Madden against guys online, it frustrates the hell out of them when I slowly march down the field with 5-10 yard throws mixed with a variety of runs. I can hear them start cussing in the headset. The methodical march down the field puts a defense on their heels and wears them out. Then your defense comes out fresh.

RE: Odds to win the AAA
We were 38th in the country in scoring offense last year. Solid but far from spectacular. And not good considering we were 6th in total offense. That's largely due to the fact we were 86th in the country in red zone offense. Lots of reasons for that including turnovers, but I will also say I've never been a fan of Gran's play calling in the red zone. You could see the QB draws coming from a mile away.

I agree. It's the defense's job to make stops and get off the field. It's the offense's job to exploit opportunities and put points on the board (with rare late game exceptions.)

Vegas knows we had a lot of extreme statistical anamolies last year (mainly turnovers and RZ offense). We're going to be right there at the end of the season IMO. Probably 8-9 wins in the regular season if I had to guess, with losses to Houston, one or two of USF/Temple/BYU, and a stinker somewhere.

I'm feeling a classic Thursday night at Nippert victory over a top 15 team on ESPN. We missed them by 3 points at their place last year.

Yes I'm drinking the pre-season kool-aid

I want to be confident about the season, but that USF game and the bowl game didn't exactly give me a warm fuzzy feeling. The stupid penalties, turnovers, and head scratchers on kickoffs that contributed to the other losses don't help much either.

There is a lot that needs to get corrected.

I really do think all of the Gunner stuff had a very significant impact on the entire team around the bowl game. We looked like dog ****, but I think when your team leader has a personal issue like his, it hits everyone pretty seriously.

The USF game was the stinker last year, and man did it stink. Every other game was a pretty clear toss-up. I'm reserving too much optimism (I'll NEVER predict double digit wins), but I think this could be a good year if we stay healthy and the crazy outliers on both sides of the turnover department don't happen again.

I could see wins against Houston and BYU. Then losses at UConn and Tulsa. We are not good on the road under Tuberville.

We may have been able to play USF off as an anomaly had the bowl game not happened. But those performances in two of the last three games makes it feel more like a trend - and both games were really bad. It's hard to swallow when we had flashes where we looked like a pretty damn good team last year.

RE: Odds to win the AAA
I have no reason to think that the d will not improve. I think this d will have more playmakers. I think Wilson will have more sacks and picks. Better push from the interior of the d line due to talent and experience. Guys ready to make plays at db. We also have difference makers in the kicking game. The offense will take a step backward. I can see the team scoring like a dantonio type team. Use Dowdy like celek and pound with our rbs. Gunnar is a high percentage qb, so we will see less throw the ball downfield and let the wr make a play. We should also see significantly less picks. Looking at the schedule, I see a loss to either Purdue or Houston. I do not see us getting both. After that, it is impossible to predict.

Any chance we could get that USF game moved to a Thursday night?

Even with the Tuberville regression we still play very well at home. It took a complete meltdown of turnovers + onside kick + kickoff return for us to lose to the division champ at home last year.

I think we find a way to win 2/3 of the marquee home games (USF, Houston, and BYU). But we're a disaster on the road and will lose probably 3 games there. I've got 8-4.
