The Butkus Award is given annually to the nation's top linebacker.

Old Dominion rising senior linebacker TJ Ricks was named to the Butkus Award Watch List. Ricks has also been named to the Nagurski Trophy Watch List. The Nagurski Trophy is given to the best defensive player in college football.

Ricks led Conference USA in tackles last season, compiling an ODU record 123 tackles.

I don't know about individually but keep an eye on our linebacker corps. IF, big if, everyone stays healthy and pans out as expected, we should have one of the best linebacker groups in the country. But they are young and we'll have to see. I do think Gary Thompson would have been up for that award but he was moved to DE. He's gonna be a nasty pass rusher from the edge. Think of a bit smaller Vinny Curry.

But Congrats to your guy. I hope he does well in all but one game Good luck.

He's a former walk-on at ODU and has become a leader of our defense. I hope he has a huge senior year, great player.
