This is crazy...... Just streamed ESPN, Hulu on 3 phones, Netflix on 3 computers, and a movie on the tv, all in full HD just because lol.

I can't wait until I can stream some college football in 4K!

I don't know where you are but AT&T's gigabit service in the Raleigh area has been an absolute disaster. Their utility crew/subs are notorious for cutting gas, power, phone, and water lines. Sometimes all in the same dig. They haven't even come close to delivering 1 gig. The best I have seen or heard so far is ~300mb.

Right now I'd settle for 300MB/sec if someone wants to stop by and hook me up... that would still be 10x what I currently get.

Let me guess, Google Fiber.

I get 350m from Time Warner. I get ~250mb over WiFi.

Comcast (I think) is testing a modem that will allow 1g over existing coax.

But at what price??

I don't think we're at a point where 1Gbps is really worth the (I'm guessing) three figure monthly price.

My needs are pretty basic, and plain old cable modem service from Comcast is more than enough currently. So it'll be tough to get me to switch to a Fiber-to-the-home service via the promise of higher performance.

Google Fiber has a 1 Gbps plan for $70/month. In comparison, I'm paying $55/month for 50 Mbps. Lowest I could pay for internet would be ~$39/month for 15 Mbps.

Google is a good value where you get 67 times the speed for internet at only 1.8 times the cost.

Well, I'm in a test group so I'm not paying for the few days I will have it. But you will actually be surprised at what the projected pricing will be. Google Fiber/HSV Utilities is going to be beginning roll outs next year. And WoW Cable, Comcast, Verzion FIOS, and Mediacom (local) all plan to begin their fiber deployments early next year.

Google is going to be coming in at $70 a month for just the Gigabit internet service so I would expect everyone else to price competitively in this market.

I will caution everyone on the details though and I'll clarify as a telecom/network engineer. You will never actually get Gigabit speeds if you are using wireless in your home. Everything in my house with the exception of the phones is connected via CAT6 Ethernet cables coming from a small Cisco switch. With wireless I'm getting an expected 400-500mbps which is great in my opinion.

To give an example streaming 4K on Netflix would only require less than 30mbps and something like browsing on a phone would be 1-4. So if any of you are looking into a 300 meg package you should be able to get 100-200 megabits over WiFi.

I would expect most deployments to go like this actually. Sadly, most cable companies will contract the work out to guys who do it very cheaply and do not know much aside from digging holes in the ground.

I got AT&T with 950+ up and down. No complaints from me... yet.

I'm doing pretty well with my 12 mbs. Streaming 2 TV's and multiple devices.

By the way, now that Roku has Playstation Vue, I have dropped Sling. I know its more than $10 more than Sling, but the family is happier with additional channels and that we can watch on 3 devices at once.

Have 18 Mbs and doing great with multiple TVs, Rokus ipads and cell phones.

The max I can get is 1.5MB wahooooo!!!!

And I bet I pay the same that you do for your 100Gb connection.

Thats crazy 70 for gig.Hopefully this causes price drops across the board. Spending a lot a month on Internet for our firm ranging from 40, 100, and 300mbps up to gig burstable in data center.

Thanks for the info. I agree, $70/mo is not bad. Still rather pay $40/mo for 1x - 2x Mbps. Plenty for my needs.

Can't the 60GHz stuff do well over 1Gbps?? I think the range is good too ... problem is that it doesn't go through walls/floors as easily as 2.4/5GHz, but could be wrong about that too.
