How soon might ACC, ESPN unveil league's television future?
http://www.dailypress.com/sports/teel-bl...-post.html

"That’s why the ACC and ESPN could well unveil their future partnership before Swofford and reporters meet July 21 in Charlotte, N.C., for his annual state-of-the-conference presser."

Congrats to the ACC for finally getting their network. Good luck making money though.

The big thing for the this will be how long the contract is forced to be extended.

Unless the future provides 75-80% of the revenue of an SECN....it is just an app or ESPN3.

If this forces any extension to a horrible ESPN TV contract, the ACC is getting bent over.

In hindsight, while the wait was agonizing, probably best that the ACC didnt solidify decisions and direction until after both the SEC and B1G made their moves.

4 years in discussion and development and it's going be ESPN3 with a fee.

Sure...

One thing the ACC gets "Criticized" for, if you can call it that, is negotiating before the B1G and SEC had. That really put them at a disadvantage, and everyone else was able to see what they had done and best it, leaving the ACC behind. Hopefully this time they're coming to the table with a little more leverage...or at least, knowledge.

Might not be just that, but the media rights seem to already be sold, there doesn't seem to be anything to aggregate into substantial additional value on the cable TV front. Something might be done in terms of a cable channel, but it doesn't seem like it could be for any appreciable additional revenue. Online subscriptions are the only obvious opportunity for revenue growth, as modest as that revenue growth might be.

Huh? The worst thing about the ACC's current situation is that their latest deal was negotiated in 2010, after the B1G and SEC had both wrestled with the network issue, and yet Swafford still bungled things by going the SEC route and eschewing a network.
