B12 Expansion Idea
I confess I don't know if the B12 should or should not expand. However, I think the conference is in a great position to test what is best for them. They could do a two for one schedule with the teams they are considering to give an invitation to (if they are really considering the idea). That way there is no guessing if a team will move the needle.

They get to play the teams being considered home & away. If a team is a winner (or moves the needle) they get the invite.

there is really no way to make this work

the teams they are considering all play at least 8 conference games which leaves at most 4 OOC games per year for them to schedule Big 12 teams

which Big 12 teams are you going to want them to schedule KU or TCU or OU

so you beat KU two out of three games big deal that tells everyone nothing other than KU is not improving

as for OU and TCU they are more concerned with strength of schedule to try and make a playoff if they go 11-1 or 12-0 so they don't need to be wasting time and effort with "test drives" for possible conference members

along with that conference membership is generally a LONG TERM deal it is not about who looks good these couple of games or who had "their fans" show up for a couple of games they actually cared about (Vs all the other games they would be playing year in and year out)

what you are proposing is really no different than what most of those that want in the Big 12 are already claiming.....we had a really good season last year or the year before we deserve to be in

"our fans" will show up if they have teams coming to "our stajium".......that they actually care about

generally all that falls apart when the string of two or three good seasons falls apart and that is when the conference looks back and wishes they had made their decision based on LONG TERM PROVEN accomplishments not short term accomplishments and the infamous "just let us in and we will show you"

I do see your points and they are valid. I was just suggesting a way to vet the teams they have interest in prior to the next TV contract negotiations. They can research the team's past to determine if they should even vet that team. But if I was going to bring a team in I would want see what kind of team support and TV ratings they have in their good and (especially) lean years. If the B12 is looking at all, the most I would think they are looking to add are only 2 of 8 teams.

It's obvious Texas has no desire to add teams, but it Texas leaves the B12 or changes their mind it would be image wise for the conference to have a proactive plan instead of reactive panic.

Or you could go to Fox/ESPN/ETC and say, "How much would we get for school-x?"

RE: B12 Expansion Idea
In September, 2010, Oklahoma played Cincinnati at Paul Brown Stadium. The eighth-ranked Sooners won a close one, 31-29. Game attendance was 58,253.

Two years earlier, the Sooners beat Cincy 52-26. The game in Norman was reasonably close at the half, with the Sooners ahead 21-13. Would the game have been closer if Cincy's starting QB hadn't broken his leg? We'll never know. Attendance at the game was 84,476. Cincinnati went on that year to win a share of the Big East title, beating West Virginia in Morgantown 26-23 in overtime, but lost to Virginia Tech in the Orange Bowl 7-20 before a crowd of 73,602.

Cincy doesn't win them all, but it moves the needle. And it does it with fewer resources. With P5 money, the sky would be the limit.

And that is really all that matters here. The Big XII doesn't need any more schools to improve its conference strength in the money sports. They are as good top to bottom as anybody. Unless an addition brings in more (not just equal) revenue for existing members, there is no reason for it to happen.
